Congress once again finds itself at dysfunction junction on finishing the bills that fund government in fiscal year 2016. It’s just their only major constitutionally-mandated annual duty, and with a September 30^th due date looming (Congress is gone from the end of the July to Labor Day) it’s pretty clear that they’re not going to finish the job.

This week, the Camden County Police Department honors Officer Jorge Perez for his latest effort to help a resident in need.

Officer Perez joined the Camden County Police Department in 2013 and is currently assigned to the Neighborhood Response Team in the city’s 4th District covering Whitman Park and Parkside.

On June 12, Officer Perez was on directed patrol addressing quality of life issues when a resident informed him that there was a disoriented elderly woman inside the Family Dollar store nearby. Officer Perez went into the store and located the woman, who was lost and did not know how to get home to her family. Officer Perez was able to quickly determine the woman’s identity and call her husband.

 

New Program Puts Internet at Fingertips of Young Students

 

Washington, DC-Rep. Donald Norcross (NJ-1) today applauded an initiative to expand high speed Internet to deserving students in The City of Camden.

 

The pilot program, ConnectHome, is a private-public partnership that will connect broadband service to 27 U.S. cities including Camden.

Michael Pauciello, on July 15, 2015, of Gloucester Twp. Age 90.

Beloved husband of the late Angelina M. (nee Massanova). Devoted father of Diana & Thomas Flynn, Michele & Frank Makovec and Lisa & Thomas Bieri. Loving grandfather of Michael Makovec (Luanne), Lauren Butler (Shaun), Ryan Bieri, Katie Makovec, Kristin Makovec, Megan Dunwell (Tim), Tommy Flynn and great grandfather of six. Preceded in death by 12 siblings. Dear brother-in-law of Philomena Massanova. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Michael proudly served in the US Navy during World War II.

Mr. Pauciello was a member of Our Lady of Hope Parish, St. Agnes RC Church.

There will be a viewing in the chapel from 10:15 to 11:15am Monday morning at Our Lady of Hope Parish, St. Agnes RC Church, Coles & Little Gloucester Rds., Blackwood. Funeral Mass 11:30am Monday at the Church. Interment St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Chews Landing.

WOODBURY NJ–Delance J. Samuels (DOB 6/15/86), of Paulsboro, was not entitled to a mistrial or a new trial because he was taken from the courthouse on a stretcher for a medical problem and missed the end of his drug possession and distribution trial, an appeals court ruled today.

CAMDEN CITY NJ JULY 17, 2015–Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo reported a Camden teen has admitted his guilt in a pair of 2013 armed robberies.

Raekwon Simmons, 19, pleaded guilty today to two counts of first-degree armed robbery. He faces a recommended sentence of 18 years in state prison.

On Wednesday, two House committees announced they will begin an investigation into Planned Parenthood’s alleged harvesting and sale of body parts from unborn babies.

In an undercover video released yesterday, Dr. Deborah Nucatola, senior director of medical services at Planned Parenthood, detailed with startling calmness how she chooses to perform abortion procedures in order to harvest particular organs from unborn children.

Union County Superior Court Judge James Hely issued an opinion on Monday, July 13 that the Summit Housing Authority failed to properly reply to an Open Public Records Act request for minutes of the non-public (executive or closed session) meetings of its Board of Commissioners.

The ruling followed oral argument on July 10. The court date was announced along with details of the case in a press release issued by NJFOG just last week.

The Judge opined that the request for the last three sets of closed session minutes was unambiguous and found fault with the Authority\’s attempt to narrow the search window to only the tenure of its current Executive Director / Custodian of Records. The request included no such limitation, nor does the law authorize that interpretation, the court ruled.

Per its own admission, the agency hasn\’t kept minutes for closed session meetings held since its current Director, Joseph M. Billy, Jr., began on April 1, 2013. The agency didn\’t contest that minutes exist for closed sessions held in earlier years but failed to provide copies of those minutes in its response to the OPRA request.

Decision is still pending with regard to Open Public Meetings Act violations, which include the agency\’s failure to keep minutes for its non-public meetings.
