New 35 Mph Speed Limit Takes Effect On Somerdale Road

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP (January 29, 205)–The Gloucester Township Police Department and the Camden County Board of Freeholders partnered together to lower the speed limit on Somerdale Road from 40 mph to 35 mph. The new 35 mph speed limit signs are being installed on Thursday January 29th and take effect immediately. Variable message boards will also be in place notifying drivers of the speed limit change. Somerdale Road was previously designated as having a
35 mph speed limit within the Borough of Somerdale.The speed limit will now be consistant through mutliple jurisdictions.

NO MINIMUM AGE PLACED ON MENTORED YOUTH HUNTERS
All could continue to hunt deer and turkey, but only those 7 and older would be issued harvest tags.

 

There still is no minimum age to participate in Pennsylvania’s Mentored Youth Hunting Program.

And there is no minimum age for Mentored Youth to hunt deer and turkey.

However, the Pennsylvania Board of Game Commissioners today gave preliminary approval to a measure that would require any antlered deer or turkey harvested by a Mentored Youth hunter younger than 7 to be taken with valid harvest tags provided by his or her adult mentor.

There is a large attractive billboard located on Route 130 South at the Brooklawn Circle. It looms over the road. Its colorful graphics are eye catching and its message riveting. It certainly did that for me and for my two companions as we recently drove past that intersection. It caught our attention. 

Ten baby fingers are displayed with this message: \”I have unique fingerprints nine weeks from conception.\” Think about it. Those unique and life-lasting human markings on the skin, fingerprints, are already in place at the ninth week of the life of a baby in the womb of his or her mother.

A source told me recently that Mayor and Council have requested all departments to put \"6a00d8341bf7d953ef01bb07cd860f970d-800wi\"together a list of names of three people with the less seniority. The list is being formulated in case it is necessary to make cutbacks in the City\’s workforce because of the lack of money. According to my source department heads have passed the request down to the individual union leaders for the fire, police, highway, and water employees.

Officer William Johnson Jr. , president of PBA Local 40 was asked to clear up some of the rumors surrounding the grievances filed by the union.

\”We have filed over 13 grievances in the past year and a half. These grievances were filed in response to changes in working conditions that was made by the Chief (Crothers) without negotiating with the PBA prior to implementing the changes. We have also filed Unfair Labor Practice charges against the City. We had to file against the City because they are our employer, even though the Police Administration is violating our rights. As you know, Police Officers cannot strike to guarantee that their rights are not violated.

Stella M. Giglio (nee Michalski), on January 28, 2015, of Bellmawr. Age 84. Born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. 

Beloved wife of the late Joseph T. Giglio. Devoted mother of Joseph M. Giglio (Sally), Deborah Rosen (Rodney), Anthony C. Giglio (Anne), and Christina Cribbin (Dave). Loving grandmom of Christopher, Heidi, Kristy, Taylor, Devon, and Morgan and great grandmom of CJ. 

Dear sister of the late Stanley, Anthony, and Jean. 

There will be a visitation from 6pm to 8pm Friday evening at GARDNER FUNERAL HOME, BELLMAWR. 

Memorial service 8pm at the funeral home. Interment private at the request of the family.

MERCHANTVILLE BANK ROBBERY

Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Merchantville Police Chief Wayne Bauer are seeking the public’s help in identifying a man who robbed a bank Wednesday.

\"MERCHANTVILLE-1\"The suspect entered the PNC Bank located at 26 West Maple Avenue in Merchantville and passed a demand note to a teller around 1:40 p.m.

The robber did not display a weapon. He fled through the back of the bank and ran east on West Maple Avenue with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspect is described as a white adult male standing about 5-foot-9 with a thin build. He is believed to have brown eyes and black and gray stubble. He was wearing a black cap with a small brim, a three-quarter length navy jacket, blue jeans, white sneakers and black gloves.

HACKENSACK, N.J. (CN) – Tenants displaced from last week\’s massive residential apartment fire along the Hudson River in Edgewater, N.J., claim in court that the lack of sprinklers in attics of their complex and use of lightweight wood construction \”may have accelerated the spread of the fire.\”
The class action against Avalon Bay Communities in Bergen County Superior Court comes just days after a Jan. 21 fire burned to the ground the 408-unit luxury housing complex known as Avalon Bay at Edgewater, constructed in 2002.

Edward Myers, WW II Marine Veteran, Past Post Commander of the Runnemede VFW

Edward Myers, Jr., on January 26, 2015, of Runnemede. Age 91. \"\"

Beloved husband of the late Mary T. (nee Repasy). Devoted father of Gerry Fulgham, Kathy Brennan (Tim), and Edward (Brookie) and father-in-law of the late Rick Fulgham. Loving grandfather of Kim & RJ Fulgham. Tim Brennan, Jr., Nicole Arntz & Nick Brennan, and Brandi & Sarah Myers and great grandfather of Kyle Brennan, Austin Liwock, Ryan Brennan, Emily Arntz, Maddie Brennan, Ryleigh Brennan, Tyler Arntz, Mackenzie Brennan, and Vinny Luna. Dear brother of Russell Myers and Rose Blatcher. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. 

Edward proudly served with the US Marine Corps for four years during World War II with the 5th and 2nd Divisions. He was a lifetime member, past Post Commander, and past District Commander with the VFW in Runnemede and was a member of the Marine Corps League. 

There will be a viewing from 10 to 11:30am Wednesday at GARDNER FUNERAL HOME, RUNNEMEDE. Funeral service 11:30am at the funeral home. Interment Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown, NJ.
