Halloween is looking especially scary this year. On Monday, Republican leaders in Congress declared an unconditional fiscal surrender to President Barack Obama and the left, negotiating a dangerous budget deal that eliminates all of the checks on Washington’s spend-and-borrow binge by breaking the budget caps, ending the sequester and raising the debt ceiling by over $1 trillion.

New Jersey’s Acting Health Commissioner Cathleen Bennett will participate in a Superstorm Sandy Anniversary panel discussion on October 29 at Southern Jersey Family Medical Center in Pleasantville.

Plaques are a funny thing. For a small donation, you can have a plaque dedicated to anyone on pretty much any park bench in Gloucester Township. However, is it appropriate to have a plaque (created with public money) dedicated to a sitting Mayor… created by that same Mayor?

Is it just me, or is there something very Nazi Germany, Soviet Russian and Maoist China about all of that?

Mayor Mayer is the Mayor of Gloucester Township, and has had some form of political role in South Jersey ever since about 2002. This past week, I have received a barrage of criticism from friends and acquaintances on social media about Mayor Mayer’s seemingly tasteless move of allowing a plaque/statue to be raised in his honor at Gloucester Township Park:

 

\”It seems that a small statue has been placed on a newly constructed wall at GT Community Park. The plaque reads Dedicated to Mayor David R. Mayer April 2013. It is incredulous that the mayor and his friends would use public money and resources to stoke his massive ego. How incredibly narcissistic can one man be? Was this discussed and approved by his council?\”

Kathryn G. \”Cass\” Falkenstein (nee Georgianna), of Bellmawr, passed peacefully at home with her family surrounding her on October 26, 2015. Age 79.

Beloved wife and best friend of 47 years of William. Devoted mother of Kristina Gustavsen (Douglas). Loving grandmother of Nickolas and Francesca. Dear sister of Isabelle Bechtel, Mary Knighton and Samuel Georgianna (Earlene). Also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Special thanks to Compassionate Care Hospice.

Mrs. Falkenstein was a member of the J & R Young at Heart Club.

There will be a viewing from 7 to 9pm Thursday eve and 8:15 to 9:15am Friday morning at GARDNER FUNERAL HOME, RUNNEMEDE.

Funeral Mass 10am Friday at St. Joachim Parish, Annunciation BVM Church, Bellmawr.

Interment New St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bellmawr.

Ann M. Domanick (nee Watson), on October 26, 2015, of Gloucester City; formerly of Bellmawr. Age 56.

Beloved wife of Andrew. Devoted mother of John Bigwood (Jennifer), Tamara Bigwood, Laura Vinson, Kenny Vinson, and the late Jacqueline Bigwood. Loving grandmother of nine. Dear sister of Patrick Watson and the late Thomas and Michael. Also survived by nieces and nephews.

There will be a visitation from 8:45 to 9:45am Tuesday, November 2nd, at St. Joachim Parish, Annunciation BVM Church, 601 W. Browning Road, Bellmawr. Funeral Mass 10am at the Church. Inurnment at New St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bellmawr.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family for costs associated with the funeral.
