NJ Warns Hotels, Rentals on Junk Fees Ahead of FIFA World Cup

As New Jersey prepares to welcome visitors from around the globe for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Attorney General Jennifer Davenport and the Division of Consumer Affairs (Division) are issuing guidance warning hotels and short-term rental housing providers against charging junk fees to consumers and putting them on notice that hidden fees and deceptive pricing tactics violate the law in New Jersey.

Guidance published by the Division today reminds businesses that New Jersey’s consumer protection laws require honest, transparent pricing and prohibit bait-and-switch tactics that mislead consumers about the true cost of lodging. The guidance comes as New Jersey is set to host eight World Cup matches in June and July 2026.

David Brown’s High Jump Title Leads Rowan University at NCAA Championships

LA CROSSE, WI — David Brown became Rowan’s second national champion in the high jump to highlight day two of the 2026 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Brown hit a PR with top effort of 2.15 meters to lead three other Profs in earning All-American honors. He is the third Rowan Student-athlete in as many years to be a national champion and 43rd all-time in program history. Noah Wampole was third (2.12 meters) and Jamile Gantt was fourth (2.09 meters) to earn first-team All-American. Damarion Potts earned second-team honors with his 14th place finish (2.03 meters).

Jason Agyemang clocked in a PR and the top time in the 110 meter hurdles prelims (13.72), which was also a meet record. Agyemang joins Kwaku Nkrumah (13.88) in the finals tomorrow. Anaias Hughes was 12th (14.42) and Val Augustin was 15th (14.63) as the duo garnered second-team All-America accolades.

Van Drew Announces Grant for Atlantic City Airport

Congressman Van Drew announced that the Atlantic City International Airport (ACY) will receive $8,777,683 in federal funding through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Infrastructure Grant program. The funding will support the construction of the new 3,800-foot Taxiway R to help strengthen airport operations.
“Atlantic City International Airport is one of the most important economic engines in South Jersey, and this investment is going to help ensure it continues growing and competing for years to come,” said Congressman Van Drew. “At the same time, my office has been in ongoing conversations with airlines to expand air service in South Jersey that will fully replace Spirit. I think people are going to be excited about what is ahead, and there will be more announcements coming soon. ACY has a strong future, and we are only going to keep building on this momentum.”
“On behalf of the entire South Jersey Transportation Authority, we thank Congressman Van Drew for securing this critical $8.7 million investment for the Atlantic City International Airport,” said Stephen F. Rowan Baseball Wins NCAA Super Regional

A ninth-inning grand slam by Joey Bogart propelled #5 Rowan to a 9-5 second-game win over Randoph-Macon in the NCAA Division III Baseball Glassboro Super Regional, giving the Profs the sweep in the best-of-three series and a second consecutive trip to the NCAA Championship. Rowan won the first game, 11-7, earlier in the day.

Righthander Austin Kreyenhagen tossed his second complete game of the season to earn the victory and send the Profs to Eastlake, Ohio next week. The sophomore allowed five hits and struck out five to improve his record to 8-1.

Sherrill, Jain Announce NJDOT’s First Design-Build Contract Award

Governor Mikie Sherrill and New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) Commissioner Priya Jain today announced Agate Construction Company, Inc. and A. Servidone, Inc./B. Anthony Construction Corp. JV have been awarded a $47.7 million contract for the Department’s first Design-Build project, the Route 50 Bridge over Cedar Swamp Creek replacement project, located in Upper Township, Cape May County.

“When I took office, I made clear that we were going to do things differently and deliver for the people of New Jersey. That means taking more efficient, innovative approaches to modernizing our aging infrastructure. The Route 50 Bridge project reflects that, by replacing this critical connection to Cape May County and key coastal evacuation route through New Jersey’s first-ever Design-Build approach. By combining design and construction into one streamlined process, we’re cutting delays, lowering costs, and delivering this long-overdue upgrade faster for New Jerseyans.”

On May 22, 2026, at approximately 9:18 PM, 13 year old Andre Streater Jr., was reported missing. Andre was last seen at his residence in the Sicklerville Section of Gloucester Township. Andre is believed to be wearing blue jeans, a black shirt, a black jacket, is approximately 5’5″ in height and 129 pounds in weight. He is a light skin black male with dark brown hair and brown eyes. The male frequents Camden City.

New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) Commissioner Priya Jain announced that the Department is launching an anti-litter campaign aimed at summer travelers. The main component will be flying an aerial banner over the Jersey Shore with the message: Keep it Clean NJ.

“With the start of summer, New Jersey’s highways will be filled with people driving to vacation destinations across the state – whether they are going to hike the Appalachian Trail in North Jersey or going down to the Shore to enjoy our beaches and boardwalks,” NJDOT Commissioner Priya Jain said. “Keeping our roadways, bike paths, and boardwalks clean and litter free is everyone’s responsibility. Flying a banner in the skies above the Jersey Shore, as well as over the World Cup matches, is a creative and simple way to remind millions of people to respect the environment and keep New Jersey beautiful by simply putting trash in its proper place.”

Gloucester Township Police Arrest Suspect in Dangerous Misuse of Less Lethal Weapon

Between December 2025 and May 2026, the Gloucester Township Police Department received three reports involving a male discharging what appeared to be a firearm in commercial parking lots along the Blackwood Clementon Road corridor, causing property damage. These incidents prompted heightened emergency responses from officers, as businesses and nearby individuals reported active gunfire in the area.

New Jersey American Water’s 2026 Volunteer Firefighter and EMS Grant Recipients

New Jersey American Water announced today that 21 volunteer fire and EMS departments in its service areas will receive about $50,000 in grants to support firefighter safety, emergency response and lifesaving equipment purchases.
