Camden County Earns Clean Cities Award

The Camden County Air Quality Committee recently received the 2026 Community Impact Award from the New Jersey Clean Cities Coalition, as part of their annual NJ Clean Cities Clean Transportation Awards Program, which honors the individuals, organizations, and initiatives that have made significant contributions to advancing clean transportation solutions, reducing emissions and energy independence practices across the state. The Community Impact Award honors organizations or individuals who have excelled at engaging and educating their community about sustainability and clean energy initiatives.

Roberta Suloff, 87, of West Berlin

Roberta Suloff (nee Cooker), age 87, a lifelong resident of West Berlin, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2026.

Born in Camden, New Jersey, Roberta was the beloved daughter of the late John W. Cooker, Sr. and Roberta Anna Haines Cooker. She was a proud graduate of Overbrook High School.

Throughout her life, Roberta held a variety of jobs, but she was especially fond of the years she spent as a sales clerk at Cherrydale Farms in the Cherry Hill Mall. She cherished the friendships she made there and enjoyed helping customers with warmth and kindness.

Roberta found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved knitting, bowling, and especially bowling in a league alongside her beloved husband, David. She treasured trips to the beach and the many timeshare vacations they enjoyed together, creating lasting memories with family and friends.

A devoted member of Wesley United Methodist Church in West Berlin, New Jersey, Roberta’s faith was a guiding force throughout her life. She was a faithful member of the congregation for more than 80 years. She was also a proud member of the Collingswood American Legion, where she enjoyed the fellowship of many dear friends.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) today marked the seventh anniversary of First Lady Melania Trump’s Fostering the Future Foster Youth to Independence (FYI) initiative by announcing a landmark Statement of Findings and Notice PIH 2026-19 to strengthen support for youth with lived experience in foster care. The policy improvements reflect feedback from foster youth, state and local officials, public housing authorities (PHAs), and service providers who participated in HUD hosted roundtables across the country.

Wanted: Suspect for Robbery in the 3rd District

On July 14, 2026 at approximately 12:30 PM, the suspect was captured on surveillance video entering the Giant Supermarket located at 1001 S. Broad Street. The suspect proceeded to the Health & Beauty aisle, where he took a bottle of body wash from the shelf and placed it into his backpack. Security confronted the suspect at the front door after passing all points of purchase. The suspect then placed his hand into his backpack, insinuated that he had a firearm and exited the store without paying for the item.

NJ Teachers to Visit Jefferson to Learn About Potential Careers for their Students

Jefferson Cherry Hill Hospital hosted more than a dozen 5th- through 12th-grade teachers from schools throughout the region as part of the Chamber of Commerce Southern New Jersey’s Summer Institute for Educators. The teachers heard from Jefferson Health leaders and clinicians on how to prepare their students for careers in the healthcare industry and took a tour of the Jefferson Cherry Hill Hospital campus.

Van Drew Raises Concerns Non-Citizens Summoned for Jury Duty

Congressman Van Drew issued the following statement after reports revealed that approximately 75,000 non-citizens are summoned for jury duty in New Jersey each year through government databases used to assemble jury pools.

“Thousands of non-citizens were improperly registered to vote, and hundreds cast ballots before the problem was caught,” said Congressman Van Drew. “Now we are learning that roughly 75,000 non-citizens are summoned for jury duty every year. Even if they are ultimately screened out, this should not be happening in the first place. This is what happens when New Jersey embraces sanctuary policies, issues driver’s licenses regardless of immigration status, and then feeds those records into government systems that were built around citizenship. Information gets mixed, and we are told to trust the safeguards to clean it up afterward. When the same problem keeps appearing across different government systems, it raises serious concerns about how New Jersey maintains and verifies its records.”

Preservation NJ Opposes Section 106 Changes

Preservation New Jersey stands with the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Preservation Action, the National Preservation Partners Network (NPPN), the National Conference of State Historic Preservation Officers (NCSHPO), the National Association of Tribal Historic Preservation Officers (NATHPO), and preservation organizations across the United States in expressing strong opposition to proposed changes to the regulations implementing Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA).

Sherman Place Historic District Moves Forward

It’s not uncommon for Laura Foord to overhear compliments from passersby on the grand Queen Anne and gingerbread Victorian homes in her neighborhood in Jersey City Heights.

Camden Country Roadwork

Several roadway projects will be underway across Camden County during the week of July 27 to August 1. 

“Motorists should plan ahead to take alternate routes and give themselves plenty of time to get to their destinations,” said Commissioner Al Dyer, liaison to the Department of Public Works. “Also, remember that when you’re traveling through a construction area, please slow down and stay alert for crew members and debris.”

Audubon

Crews will be working on East Atlantic Avenue on Monday, July 27, to Friday, July 31, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. There will be a partial eastbound road closure between West Merchant Street in Audubon and Station Avenue in Haddon Heights.

Camden

·         PSE&G will be working on 2735 Federal Street on Monday, July 27, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. There will be a partial westbound road closure between North 27th Street and Leonard Avenue.
