Man Sentenced in Fatal 2022 High-Speed Crash

Gabriel H. Woolson, 26, of Williamstown, was sentenced Friday to  6 years in state prison by the Honorable Russell A. DePersia for death by auto  stemming from a 2022 crash that resulted in the death of another motorist. 

According to documents filed in this case and statements made in open court: 

At 5:40 p.m. on Dec. 14, 2022, Woolson was driving his 2011 Chevrolet Corvette ZR 1 westbound on the South Black Horse Pike in Williamstown at an extremely high  rate of speed. The victim, Evan Silverstein, 52, of Marlton, had been traveling  eastbound on the same road before making a left turn across the westbound lanes of  travel. Woolson struck the victim’s vehicle, severing the car in half and launching  the front half more than 100 feet into the parking lot of a strip mall. Silverstein was ejected from the vehicle and suffered catastrophic, fatal injuries. A passenger in  Woolson’s vehicle was also injured.

Police Officer Christopher DeLong, Jr. – End of Watch August 29

Police Officer Christopher DeLong Jr., 29, was shot and killed responding to a domestic disturbance near the 900 block of Hazelwood Road, in the Southeast Park area, South Carolina, at approximately 10:41 a.m.

Officer DeLong had initially responded to a report of property damage from a domestic dispute. After leaving the original call, he identified a subject and vehicle matching the reported description at a nearby location and called it in. When backup officers arrived a few minutes later, Officer DeLong and another officer had been shot. Officer DeLong succumbed to his wounds at the scene.

The suspect died at the scene.

Officer DeLong had served with the Columbia Police Department for nearly two years. Survivors include his wife and two children.

Several roadway projects will be underway across Camden County during the week of August 31 to September 4

“Motorists should plan ahead to take alternate routes and give themselves plenty of time to get to their destinations,” said Commissioner Al Dyer, liaison to the Department of Public Works. “Also, remember that when you’re traveling through a construction area, please slow down and stay alert for crew members and debris.”

Berlin Borough

Crews will be working on 136 New Freedom Rd on Wednesday, September 2, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Street closure traffic will be detoured between Aristone Drive and Evanine Drive.

But for many, including those who “graduated” from kratom to the more potent 7-OH and synthetic opioids often touted as kratom-related, their initial relief turned into an addiction they now can’t kick.

That’s because kratom, 7-OH and the related synthetic opioids act on the brain’s opioid receptors.

Gloucester City American Legion Post 135 to Take Over Brick Walk

I am happy to announce that the Gloucester City American Legion Post 135 will be taking over the Memory Brick Walk in Proprietor’s Park. As many of you will remember, we lost a very lovely Gloucester City Lady this past June 19th…Mrs. Patti Kropp. Less than a year before she passed, she found she was suffering from Pancreatic Cancer and had a short time to live. Patti asked that people remember her by donating and helping the Gloucester City American Legion Post 135 in their effort to assist and care for homeless veterans. To that end, the legion will take over the brick walk and use all proceeds to honor Patti’s wish and direct the brick profits to assist homeless veterans. At this time, we are putting together a F.B. site for this brick campaign which will be managed by American Legion Member Vince Baehr. When it is completed I will let everyone know and direct them to this site if they wish to support this worthy cause and order a brick.

Man Sentenced for Aggravated Sexual Assault, Endangering the Welfare of a Child 

Jason L. Bailey, 48, of Paulsboro, was sentenced today to 31 1/2 years in state prison by the Honorable Benjamin D. Morgan, Prosecutor Andrew B. Johns announced.  

According to documents filed in this case and statements made in open court: On Dec. 10, 2023, Bailey committed acts of sexual assault on a girl between the ages  of 13 and 16. Upon his arrest for this offense, he refused to provide  a mandatory DNA sample as required by law.  

He was convicted in April of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, second-degree  endangering the welfare of a child, third-degree aggravated criminal sexual assault,  and fourth-degree refusal to provide a DNA sample, as well as being found to be a  persistent offender based on his criminal history.

Jefferson Washington Township Hospital Opens New Interventional Radiology Suite

Jefferson Washington Township Hospital recently opened a new, hybrid interventional radiology suite, creating more opportunities for patients with conditions that require complex procedures (cardiac catheterization, neurosurgical, vascular intervention) to receive high-quality, specialized care close to home.  The suite is Jefferson Washington Township Hospital’s third to be approved by the New Jersey Department of Health, and its creation further strengthens Jefferson’s Bruce & Robbi Toll Heart and Vascular Institute and Vickie & Jack Farber Institute for Neuroscience.
