NASCAR’s annual All-Star Race comes to Dover Motor Speedway this weekend for the first time at the World’s Fastest One-Mile Oval and the first time in the Northeast, bringing a $1 million prize along with several competition-focused changes to The Monster Mile.
In preparation for the NASCAR Cup Series’ return to Dover, NASCAR and track officials have been working to widen the racing groove and increase grip around the concrete oval.

Why: The Mount Pleasant School House at Bellevue State Park was one of the first public schools built under the Free School Act of 1829, which divided each county into many school districts and provided funding to build a school house. The one-room school house was used from 1830 to 1864 to teach children of all ages from the local farming community reading, writing, arithmetic and English grammar, led by a single teacher. The school house was restored by Delaware State Parks in partnership with the Friends of Bellevue State Park to serve as an interpretative center for the public to experience the rich history of Bellevue and its community.
On May 11, 2026, at the age of 23, Joseph passed suddenly at home in Pennsauken. Beloved son of Roger Bryan Johnson and the late Kelly McVeigh. Beloved brother of William Johnson (Koria Draper). Joe was a graduate of Gateway Regional High School, class of 2021. He was currently working as a longshoreman for Holt Logistics in Gloucester City.
Joe enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.
The Black Horse Pike/Route 168 southbound ramp to Route 42 southbound, which was scheduled to be reopened today, Friday, May 15, is scheduled to be closed for an additional week in Gloucester Township, Camden County. The closure is being extended due to inclement weather and other factors that have delayed the completion of guiderail replacement on the ramp.
In addition, the ramp acceleration lane onto Route 42 southbound and the Route 42 southbound right shoulder will be reopened on Friday, May 22. This will require an overnight right lane closure on Route 42 southbound, which is scheduled to take place on Thursday, May 21.
Legendary FOX Sports broadcaster Mike Joy will add another milestone to his celebrated motorsports career this weekend at Dover Motor Speedway, serving as the honorary starter by waving the green flag for Sunday’s NASCAR All-Star Race at The Monster Mile.
The moment carries special meaning for Joy, who grew up in the Northeast and has spent decades calling races at many of the region’s most historic tracks. Despite more than five decades in motorsports broadcasting, Joy has never before served as the honorary starter for a NASCAR Cup Series race.
Bally’s Beach Bar, the high-energy oceanfront dining and entertainment destination at Bally’s Atlantic City,will kick off its summer season on Friday, May 22, welcoming guests with beachside dining, live entertainment and sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean.
The beach bar will debut for the season with service Friday through Sunday, expanding to daily hours beginning Friday, June 19, through Labor Day. Bally’s Beach Bar will be open 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday, with barbecue served from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Throughout the summer, Bally’s Beach Bar will feature live DJs, local performers and a lineup of refreshing summer cocktails and food straight from the barbeque. Guests will be able to relax and enhance their beach day with umbrella and chair rentals and first-come, first-served cabanas just steps from the sand.
Five of the most popular drive-on beaches for surf fishing in Delaware require reservations on weekends and holidays beginning May 23, but reservations at seven other locations are not required since a change was adopted in 2025.
Two individuals are in custody after an armed carjacking late Monday night led to a police pursuit and a vehicle collision in Northeast Philadelphia. The incident began on May 11, 2026, at approximately 10:48 p.m., when Philadelphia police officers responded to a report of a carjacking on the 2100 block of Longshore Avenue. Investigators determined that two masked suspects approached a 32-year-old woman and a 37-year-old woman, brandishing a handgun and a knife. The offenders threatened the victims with the weapons before seizing their keys and fleeing the scene in the victims’ 2012 Jeep Cherokee.
Legislation sponsored by AssemblywomanHeather Simmons that would ensure dialysis patients can have a designated support person present during treatment cleared the Assembly Health Committee on Monday.For thousands of New Jersey residents living with end-stage kidney disease, dialysis is a life-sustaining treatment that often requires hours-long sessions several times each week. These treatments can be physically exhausting and emotionally draining, leaving many patients in need of additional support.“Dialysis is not just a medical procedure; it is a demanding and deeply personal experience,” said Assemblywoman Simmons (D-Gloucester, Salem, Cumberland). “This bill was inspired by a nonverbal patient who was unable to have a support person present during treatment, despite relying on that person for comfort, communication, and advocacy.A3434 helps ensure patients can have a trusted support person by their side during dialysis when they need it most.”During testimony at yesterday’s hearing, Assemblywoman Simmons introduced Patty Bomba of Carneys Point, who shared her family’s experience advocating for her 29-year-old granddaughter living with multiple disabilities and end-stage renal disease. Bomba testified that when her granddaughter began dialysis treatment, her request to accompany her as a support person was denied. As a result, serious issues arose during treatment that she believes could have been avoided had she been allowed to be present.The legislation, known as the “New Jersey Dialysis Patient Support Person Accommodation Act,” would require dialysis centers across New Jersey to reasonably accommodate patients requesting that a support person accompany them during dialysis treatment. The bill would also require facilities to establish written policies regarding support person access, provide staff training, and comply with oversight from the Department of Health.Under the bill, dialysis centers may still establish reasonable health, safety, and infection control measures, provided those policies do not unnecessarily restrict access to a support person. Facilities that fail to comply would be subject to penalties, fines, or corrective action orders from the Department of Health.
