Beast Coast Returns June 13 Hosted by Philly Dodgeball

Philly Dodgeball will host the 2nd annual Beast Coast Dodgeball Tournament on Saturday, July 13, at Ben Franklin High School, bringing together the top dodgeball talent from across the eastern United States for a one-day showdown to determine East Coast bragging rights.

The invitational tournament will feature competition in two divisions: Open Foam and WTNB (women, trans and nonbinary) Foam. Teams representing Boston, Cleveland, Long Island, the DMV region, New York City and Philadelphia will compete in what has become the premier dodgeball event on the east coast.

Defending champions return looking to repeat, as Long Island enters as the reigning Open Foam champion and New York City seeks to defend its WTNB Foam title.

Rowan Finishes 18th in Division III Learfield Directors’ Cup

Rowan University Athletics has earned an 18th-place finish in the 2025-26 Division III Learfield Directors’ Cup, which recognizes the overall excellence of athletics programs based on the school’s finishes in up to 18 sports in the NCAA Championships.

Rowan, which totaled 679.50 points, owns the distinction of being the second highest-ranked public institution in the Division III standings. It also marks the second year in a row that the Profs have finished in the nation’s top 20, after garnering a 17th-place finish in 2024-25.

Among the highlights of the 2025-26 competition season for Rowan was the men’s track and field team winning the NCAA Division III Indoor Championship. It marked the 12th all-time national title for Rowan’s athletics program, and the first since field hockey’s championship in 2002. Additionally, the men’s outdoor track & field team was the NCAA runner-up at its championship in the spring while the baseball and softball teams each earned fifth-place finishes in their respective World Series appearances.

No Criminal Charges Against West Deptford Cop

A state grand jury has voted not to file any criminal charges against a West Deptford police officer at the conclusion of its deliberations regarding a motor-vehicle collision that resulted in the death of Jose M. Martinez, 42, of Lindenwold, New Jersey, in West Deptford on November 9, 2025.

Mr. Martinez’s death was investigated by the Office of Public Integrity and Accountability (OPIA) and presented to New Jersey residents serving on the grand jury in accordance with the Independent Prosecutor Directive of 2019, which was issued following the enactment of a state law requiring the Office of the Attorney General to investigate deaths that occur during an encounter with law enforcement.

The investigation included witness interviews, photographs, radio transmissions, vehicle digital forensics, review of video footage from police dashboard cameras, body-worn cameras, and third-party surveillance cameras, as well as autopsy results from a medical examiner. This evidence, including video of the incident, was presented to a state grand jury. After hearing the testimony and evidence, the grand jury finished deliberating on June 1, 2026, and voted “no bill,” concluding that no criminal charges should be filed against West Deptford Patrolman Conor Goggin.

Detectives Investigating Homicide in Camden

Camden, NJ – Detectives are investigating a shooting that killed a man in Camden early this morning, reported Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay and Camden County Police
Chief Gabriel Rodriguez. On Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at approximately 12:23 a.m., officers from the Camden County Police Department responded to the 200 block of Morse Street in reference to a ShotSpotter activation. Upon arrival, officers located a gunshot victim – identified as 24-year-old Luis J. Bonet of Camden – in the area of Baird Boulevard and Boyd Street. Bonet was transported to
Cooper University Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at approximately 12:36 a.m. The investigation is active and ongoing. No arrests have been made at this time.
