On September 17th, 2026, at approximately 2:09 pm, the North Wildwood Police Department, North Wildwood Fire Department and North Wildwood Beach Patrol responded to the area of 2nd Avenue and the Beach for a swimmer in distress.
Upon arrival, multiple surfers had entered the water and located an unconscious male victim. North Wildwood Fire Department personnel and North Wildwood Beach Patrol arrived on scene and immediately began lifesaving efforts.
The victim was transported to Cooper University Hospital Cape Regional, where he was pronounced deceased. The North Wildwood Police Department Detective Bureau has identified the victim as Ahmet Yimenici (21) from Turkey. At this time, the incident does not appear to involve foul play.
“Our hearts go out to Mr. Yimenici’s family during this incredibly difficult time. I also want to recognize the quick actions of the surfers and civilians on scene. Their willingness to act without hesitation gave this young man the best possible chance, and we’re grateful for their courage,” said Chief Katherine Madden.
The public is reminded to swim in areas where lifeguards are present and on duty within the City of North Wildwood.
