Glen “Turk” Thomas, 70, of Gloucester City
Glenn G. “Turk” Thomas, 70, of Gloucester City passed away on December 18, 2024. He is survived by his loving wife of more than 49 years, Diane (nee Reed) Thomas; his children, Glenn (Stacy), Harry (Christine) and Shannon Thomas; his grandchildren, Brianna, Julianna, Landon, Owen, Chase and Harper; his brothers, John “Reds” Thomas and Bob (Brenda) Thomas; and his sister-in-law, Denise (Jack) Barron. Glenn served Gloucester City as an employee with the Public Works Department and was a big supporter of youth sports in town. Jean Branella (Jan. 2nd) September 30, 1927 – Monday, December 9, 2024 Jean M. Branella (nee Caponigro) 97, passed peacefully on December 9, 2024. Beloved wife of the late Salvatore C. Branella. Theresa Mary Gorman (Jan. 2nd) Theresa Mary Gorman, 68, of West Deptford, formerly of Gloucester City, passed away on December 21, 2024. She was the beloved daughter of the late Charles A. Gorman and Sally N. Gorman (nee Hutchinson). Cherished sister of Joe (Colleen) Gorman, Mary (Mike) Murphy, Bernadette Gorman, Ronnie (late Bob) Battersby, Chuck (Barb) Gorman, Gina (Jim) Finley, Ann Gorman and the late Rose Gorman. She is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. Theresa was born in Camden and raised in Gloucester City. She was a proud graduate with the Class of 1970 at Saint Mary’s Grammar School in Gloucester City. Theresa was a 1974 graduate of Gloucester Catholic High School. She attended and graduated in 1978 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts from Rutgers University in Camden. Furthering her desire to continue to learn, Theresa obtained her Masters Degree in Library Science from Drexel University. She then achieved her Masters Degree in Business Administration from Pierce Business School. Theresa was very dedicated to her career. She worked at the Camden City Free Library starting in 1985 where she became director. Theresa retired in 2009 after 24 years of dedicated work. She was a devoted parishioner of Saint Mary’s Church in Gloucester City. Relatives and friends attended Theresa’s viewing in St. Mary’s Church, where her Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated. Edward Chabalowski (Jan. 9th) Edward Chabalowski, 92, of Mount Ephraim passed away on
December 26, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Devoted husband of the late Ann Marie Chabalowski for 66 plus years. Beloved father of Edward Chabalowski (Faith), Teresa MacMahon (Michael), Anthony Chabalowski (Beverly), Sharon Smith and Suzann Watson (Tobey). Loving grandfather of Edward, Victoria, Alicia (Matt), Kristina, Caitlin, Thomas, Matthew, Angelene, Adam, Toby and Tyler. Cherished great grandfather of five and he is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Dear brother of the late Stella Sobieski (the late Matt). Ed was part of the Greatest Generation and proudly served in the US Army as a translator during the Korean War. After his service was complete, he went on to have a lifelong career in Advertising Sales at the Courier-Post Newspaper. He was a proud member of the VFW Post 9563, Bellmawr, American Legion Post 0133 and the Polish America Club. Ed was very outgoing and welcomed neighbors, family and friends to play pool, cards, and watch videos of his many European vacations. He was proud of his Polish heritage and loved going to Polka Festivals and Big Band events. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed many hobbies. His favorite was his vast creation of molded and painted lead soldiers. Ed was very proud of his family instilling faith, love, morals and had high standards. Frank Keebler (Jan. 9th) Frank E. Keebler, 98, a lifelong resident of Gloucester City, passed away on December 28, 2024. Loving and devoted husband of 71 years to the late Darline Lee Keebler (nee Ternau). Loving father of Karen Hartman (late Robert), the late Lynda Keebler and the late Frankie Keebler. Beloved Poppy of grandsons Frankie Willerton (Dana) and Joseph Hartman and great-grandfather of Cowan. Beloved brother of Carole Wilson and Betty Englehart and predeceased by his siblings, Doris, Alice, Eddie and Tom. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, close friends, educators and students. Frank proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He returned home to complete high school and graduate from Gloucester High School Class of 1947. Lunsford Owen Garrett IV (Jan. 9th) In the loving care of his beloved wife Denise, Lunsford Owen Garrett IV, 56, passed peacefully at home on December 28, 2024. Born in Annapolis, MD, Owen was raised in Baltimore and attended Washington Township and Clayton high schools. He currently resided in Audubon. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Denise Allen Garrett; his son, Kenneth Garrett; his siblings, Neal Cox (Rebecca), Tinya Prate (Michael) and Angeline Garrett; his very close sister-in-law, Dawn Allen; mother-inlaw, Patricia Allen; stepson, Anthony DeCaro Jr.; many loving nieces and nephews; and dear friends, Mike, Bill, Wayne, George and Nancy. Owen was predeceased by his parents, Lunsford Owen Garrett III and Nora Garrett, as well as his sister, Amber Garrett (surviving Nick). Owen enjoyed his profession as a landscaper. He was also a “Jack of All Trades” and loved to work on cars, especially his two Rodeo Sports. His true love was performing as a singer for Love Sick Soul as well as many cover bands over the years. Patricia Ann Kelly (Jan. 9th) Patricia Ann Kelly, 82, of Brooklawn, formerly of Camden, passed away on December 27, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Leon and Anna Kelly. Pat is survived by her brother, Leon Kelly, and many loving nieces and nephews. Pat was raised in South Camden and was a longtime parishioner of Sacred Heart Church. She worked as an executive secretary for RCA in Camden, as well as many law firms in Philadelphia, before her retirement. Pat enjoyed, cooking, baking and line dancing. Carol Bakey (Jan. 16th) Carol Rose Bakey, 72, a beloved resident of Gloucester City, passed away on January 8, 2025. Age 72. She was born on December 3, 1952 in Baltimore, MD, to Eldona and James Lishman and grew up there with her siblings Nancy Lishman, James Lishman, Joseph Lishman and Thomas Lishman. Carol shared 46 wonderful years of marriage with her devoted husband, George F. Bakey Jr. Together they built a loving family that includes her six children, 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Carol was passionate about her education. Pursuing her bachelor’s degree at Rutgers University and her Master’s Degree at UMDNJ. She dedicated her professional life to helping others as a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor. With her LCADC and a specialty in Art Therapy, she brought compassion and expertise to her work, striving to foster understanding and healing for her clients. Carol was an avid reader. She loved gardening and the theatre. Friends and relatives attended her viewing in St Mary’s Church, Gloucester City, where her Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated. Carol Bakey was a most remarkable woman.”
Eva Mae Boulden (Jan. 23rd) Eva Mae Boulden, 87, of Bellmawr suddenly and sadly passed away on the evening of January 10, 2025. Born on October 6th , 1937, Eva was raised in Gloucester City. Eva was an avid reader often spending her free time finishing a book she could not put down all in one day. Eva loved the holidays and always found much joy in spoiling her family during Christmas time. She is the loving mother of Walter Boulden and Laraine Chambers and a devoted grandmother to Johnny Chambers Jr. and Alicia Chambers. James Lee Bounds (Jan. 23rd) James Lee Bounds, 92, of Voorhees, formerly of Camden, passed away on January 1, 2025. Son of the late James A. and Ida Bounds (nee Jones). In addition to his parents, James is predeceased by his sister, Jeane Williams. He is survived by his sister, Kathryne Langford, as well as his fellow members of the Bright Memorial Disciples of Christ Church in Camden, where James served as Chairman of Trustees, Deacon Board, Usher Board among other auxiliaries at Bright Memorial. Affectionately known as Jimmy Lee or Lee Boy, he was born in Philadelphia on October 10, 1932. Jimmy was a graduate of East Side High, formally Woodrow Wilson High School in Camden Class of 1950. He worked many years at the University of Pennsylvania before his retirement. James loved to play dominos and sing old hymns, in addition to other crafts for which he was very skillful. His family and friends will fondly remember him for his well-known saying when asked how he was doing, his reply would be, “Blessed by the Best!” And how he lovingly cared for the elderly… “Seek the Lord while He may be found, call upon Him while He’s near.” Relatives and friends attended his viewing the Bright Memorial D.O.C. Linda Sochor (Jan. 23rd) Linda S. Sochor (nee Morlachetta), 75, of Mickleton and formerly of Gibbstown, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2025, in the loving care of her husband of 25 years, Robert W. Sochor and devoted and adored daughters, Erica (Vittorio) Harding, Dana (Jon) Russo and Paula (Jimmy) Clark. She was the daughter of the late Paul Morlachetta and Helen Morlachetta (nee Miller). Loving grandmother of Ryan and Sydney. Dear brother Barry (Carole) Morlachetta. Predeceased by her siblings Paul (surviving Marie) Morlachetta, George Morlachetta, Eleanor and her husband, Jack Kain. Devoted step-mother of Kimberly (Robert) Luca, Robert D. (Danielle) Sochor, Tracey (Paul) Dillen and seven step-grandchildren. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Linda was born in Woodbury and raised in Gibbstown. She graduated from Paulsboro High School in 1967, and was an executive assistant for over 40 years with Campbell Soup and DuPont. She enjoyed going to the casinos with Bob and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events. Linda loved spending time with her daughters. Being with her family was the most important thing to her. John P. McDade, “Oats” age 85; formerly of Gloucester City
John Patrick McDade (Jan. 30th) John “Jack” Patrick McDade, 85, passed away on December 7, 2024 at Cooper Hospital. He was born on June 12, 1939, ironically at Cooper Hospital. Jack grew up in Gloucester City and attended St Mary’s grammar school. Subsequently he went to Camden County Vocational Technical School for welding. He worked at New York Ship Building and moved to Sun Ship Building in Chester, PA. Sun Ship became Penn Ship Building and because he wanted to pursue a career as a welding teacher he left there in 1988 after 30 years in the field to become a welding teacher at Burlington County Institute of Technology – Medford campus.
For many years he taught welding to high school students and in the adult evening classes while working towards his teaching degree at Glassboro State (Rowan University). In June 2010, he retired from teaching, but because of his love of working with students at BCIT he remained there as a substitute teacher both in the classrooms, but more importantly in the shops. Just a month before his passing he was working in the Building Trades Shop.
For more than 30 years he was a devoted teacher and mentor to many. Jack was also involved in organizations over his lifetime, including the Gloucester City Breakfast Club, the Gloucester City Lions Club and the Bordentown Elks. He was a Masonic Brother in the Medford Lodge, but he enjoyed traveling to other lodges especially the Central Lodge 44 in Vincentown. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite Central Lodge. He recently became a member of the Jersey Traveler’s Twelve High Club 809. Jack was a parishioner of St. Joan of Arc in Marlton and was devoted to his faith. For 48 years he was a member of the Square Circle Sportsmen’s Club, including the Over the Hill Gang. He enjoyed being a part of the pistol team years ago but recently trapshooting was more his passion. He also belonged to the Pine Belt Sportsmen’s Club
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Carol; his four-legged daughter Charity; his sister, Mary Ann McDade n West Virginia; his niece Kristin Lynch (Tim); nephew Alan Pomykala Jr. (Nichole); nephew Kyle Pomykala (Madelyn); great nephew Westen Pomykala; great nieces Raegan and Makenzie Lynch; Sister in law Micki Pomykala (Bret Rose), along with many cousins and friends. Jack was predeceased by his mother, Ethel C. McDade (nee Laux), and his father John F. McDade, mother and father-in-law Florence and Walter Pomykala, and brother-in-law Alan Pomykala Sr.
A Memorial Mass and celebration of life will be held for Jack at a later time. Donations may be made in Jack’s name to either the Shriner’s Hospital for Children or St. Jude’s Hospital for Children.
Janice Elaine Barlow (Jan. 30th) On December 5, 2024, just one day after her 77th birthday, Janice Elaine Barlow passed away peacefully in the Trustbridge Hospice Center in West Palm Beach, FL. Janice is the loving daughter of the late John and Mildred Barlow (nee Lundquist). Cherished mother of Richard (Pamela Harper) Minyon, Jack Minyon and Melani (David) Borodziuk. Adored grandmother of Brianna Woods, Jacqueline Minyon, David Borodziuk and Madison Borodziuk. Beloved great-grandmother of Tiffany Minyon and Korbyn Caliger. Predeceased by her siblings: Jackie Barlow, Vicki Barlow, Duane Barlow and Danny Barlow. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. Janice is predeceased by her siblings, Jackie Barlow, Vicki Barlow, Duane Barlow and Danny Barlow. Janice was born in Camden and is formerly of Gloucester City, where she attended high school. Janice began her career in the beauty industry in the 1960s through the late 1980s. She then went on to begin her path in security services until her love for animals compelled her to open her own dog-training business with her best friend Shirley. As a trainer, Janice was known for and took great pride in training service-dogs throughout South Jersey. She continued this passion until she moved with her sons to Port St. Lucie, FL, two years ago. Throughout Janice’s life, she was a mentor and sponsor to countless individuals. She would do anything in her power to help those in need. Janice lit up every room she walked in, and in her quiet way she made everyone feel so special. She always had words of encouragement, took time to just listen, and loved with all her heart. She had a fierce loyalty to her children and grandchildren and taught them all of the traditions they carry out today. Beloved son of the late Phillip Francis Drinkwater, Jr. and Elizabeth Anne Drinkwater (nee Bulkley). In the loving and devoted care of his wife of 44 years, Sallie Kay Drinkwater (nee James). Skip is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Timothy Drinkwater, his sister-in-law Cynthia Brosius, and his grandchildren John Berry, William Berry and Rebecca Card. Born in Provo, UT, Skip spent most of his formative years in Pitman and with his sweetheart, Sallie Kay, chose to raise their five children in Pitman. A proud alumnus of Pitman High School (’77), Brigham Young University (BA ’89), and Rutgers University School of Law-Camden (JD ’92), he enjoyed a fulfilling career as an attorney of 23 years before retiring to Schuylkill Haven, PA. While his health necessitated retirement from a profession he loved, it was his dedication to his faith and family that truly defined his character. A lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Skip served his Lord and his church in many capacities with unwavering commitment, including a Spanish-speaking missionary in Los Angeles, CA, Bishop in Sewell, Branch President in Pottsville, PA, service in three Philadelphia Mission Presidencies and Philadelphia Temple. Most of all, Skip was a true and genuine friend to many, embodying the qualities of generosity, compassion and loyalty. Skip’s greatest joy came from the time spent with his family. He especially delighted in family trips to Ocean City, where for over 60 years he could be found body surfing, taking sunrise walks on the beach, or simply enjoying a good book on the shore. He loved to cook and host big family gatherings – a testament to his belief that life was best enjoyed surrounded by loved ones, good food, and laughter. He was a music lover, and reveled in impromptu dance parties with his kids, slow dancing with his wife and tearing it up at family weddings with The Twist. An avid Philly sports fan, Skip particularly loved watching his beloved Phillies and Eagles. He also loved family history, reading nearly every historical plaque along the Mormon Trail from Nauvoo, IL, to Salt Lake City, and visiting the Bevilacqua homeland of Pescara, Abruzzo, Italy. Skip’s curiosity was insatiable, and he always had several books he was reading and eager to discuss, most especially his giant set of leather-bound scriptures, pages curled with wear and margins filled with notes in his distinctive handwriting. Skip Drinkwater’s life was a testament to the power of faith, family, and the pursuit of knowledge. His warm smile, hearty laugh, and the countless stories he shared will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Hart (nee Staepel); his children Robert Hart Jr. (Aimee), Theresa Hart (Brian Dromgoole), Joseph Hart (Amanda), Kathleen Wallace (Gregory), Christopher Hart (Laura) and Julia Hart (Richard Muller); grandchildren Robert III, Bridget, Elise, Connor, Kaitlyn, Daniel, Michael, Andrew, Anna, Emma, Maryanne, Julia and Zachary; his sisters, Joanne Leary and Roxanne Verchio, as well as many nieces and nephews. Robert was predeceased by his parents, Ralph and Anna Hart, and his siblings, Ralph Hart, Frank Hart and Virginia Johnson. Robert was a member of Local Union 251 Floorlayers in Philadelphia for 35 years. He was a diehard fan of the Denver Broncos and enjoyed watching Westerns and The Three Stooges. Relatives and friends attended his viewing in the McCann-Healey Funeral Home, 851 Monmouth St., Gloucester City, where his Funeral Service was celebrated.
