Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland in coordination with Chief Tracey Super of the Middle Township Police Department and Chief Donald Vanaman Jr. of the Lower Township Police Department announce that human remains found in Middle Township on March 3, 2026, have been positively identified as Benjamin J. Beason, 42, of Lower Township, New Jersey.
Mr. Beason was previously reported missing to the Lower Township Police Department on May 22, 2024
As previously released, on March 3, 2026, a Cape May County resident was walking in a wooded area in the Whitesboro section of Middle Township when they discovered what appeared to be a human skull. The discovery was immediately reported to the Middle Township Police Department. A subsequent coordinated search by law enforcement and search and rescue personnel resulted in the recovery of additional skeletal remains.
An examination of the human remains was conducted by the New Jersey State Police Forensic Anthropology Unit. The findings were subsequently forwarded to the Southern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office. Based upon the examination and findings, the human remains were positively identified as those of Mr. Beason. The cause and manner of death still remain under investigation.
Prosecutor Sutherland stated that the investigation remains ongoing, and that additional information will be released as it becomes available.
