Sherrill, Jain Announce NJDOT’s First Design-Build Contract Award

Governor Mikie Sherrill and New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) Commissioner Priya Jain today announced Agate Construction Company, Inc. and A. Servidone, Inc./B. Anthony Construction Corp. JV have been awarded a $47.7 million contract for the Department’s first Design-Build project, the Route 50 Bridge over Cedar Swamp Creek replacement project, located in Upper Township, Cape May County.

“When I took office, I made clear that we were going to do things differently and deliver for the people of New Jersey. That means taking more efficient, innovative approaches to modernizing our aging infrastructure. The Route 50 Bridge project reflects that, by replacing this critical connection to Cape May County and key coastal evacuation route through New Jersey’s first-ever Design-Build approach. By combining design and construction into one streamlined process, we’re cutting delays, lowering costs, and delivering this long-overdue upgrade faster for New Jerseyans.”

NJ Warns Hotels, Rentals on Junk Fees Ahead of FIFA World Cup

As New Jersey prepares to welcome visitors from around the globe for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Attorney General Jennifer Davenport and the Division of Consumer Affairs (Division) are issuing guidance warning hotels and short-term rental housing providers against charging junk fees to consumers and putting them on notice that hidden fees and deceptive pricing tactics violate the law in New Jersey.

Guidance published by the Division today reminds businesses that New Jersey’s consumer protection laws require honest, transparent pricing and prohibit bait-and-switch tactics that mislead consumers about the true cost of lodging. The guidance comes as New Jersey is set to host eight World Cup matches in June and July 2026.

All NJMVC Facilities to Close for the State Holiday on Monday, May 25th

All New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (NJMVC) facilities, including agencies, road test sites, and inspection stations, will be closed Monday, May 25, 2026, in observance of the state holiday.

Regular operations will be in effect at NJMVC facilities the remainder of the week, including Saturday, May 23.

The I-295 southbound ramp to Route 42 southbound and I-295 southbound, also known as Al-Jo’s Curve, is scheduled to be closed and detoured tonight as the Direct Connection project advances in Bellmawr, Camden County.

Advisory: Air Quality Alert until 12:00AM Thursday

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has issued a Code Orange Air Quality alert for Wednesday for Atlantic, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Ocean, Gloucester, Burlington, Ocean and Salem Counties. A code orange air quality alert means that air pollution concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for sensitive groups.

* WHAT…Heat index values up to 98 expected.

* WHERE…Western Monmouth, Middlesex, Ocean, and Southeastern Burlington Counties.

* WHEN…Until 8 PM EDT Wednesday.

* IMPACTS…Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Record setting high temperatures are quite possible through Wednesday, with maximum heat indices nearing 100 degrees during peak heating each afternoon. Given the intensity of this early season stretch of heat and humidity, we are not acclimated to it yet and therefore impacts could be greater if precautions are not taken. Showers and some thunderstorms arrive later Wednesday afternoon and evening which will break this early season heat.

* AFFECTED AREAS: MIDDLESEX … WESTERN MONMOUTH … OCEAN … SOUTHEASTERN BURLINGTON

Camden County Roadwork

 Several roadway projects will be underway across Camden County during the week of May 18 to May 22. 

“Motorists should plan ahead to take alternate routes and give themselves plenty of time to get to their destinations,” said Commissioner Al Dyer, liaison to the Department of Public Works. “Also, remember that when you’re traveling through a construction area, please slow down and stay alert for crew members and debris.”

Public Health Alert for Headcheese Deli Meat Products

May 14, 2026: Whole genome sequencing results show that headcheese samples collected by FSIS and produced at Crawford Sausage Co. (Est. 21406) tested positive for the outbreak strain of Listeria monocytogenes. FSIS continues to coordinate with the Illinois public health and agriculture partners on the outbreak investigation.
