EFFECTIVE THIS JULY: New E-bike Requirements In New Jersey!

New Jersey passed major new e-bike laws, signed by Governor Phil Murphy on January 19, 2026, his last full day in office. These changes represent the first overhaul of e-bike regulations in six years and are considered among the strictest in the United States. These laws will go into effect in July 2026.

Why the Change? Lawmakers cited a rise in e-bike usage and crashes, including serious and fatal accidents, across the state as the main reason for tightening regulations and treating e-bikes more like motorized vehicles for safety purposes.

New research details PFAS prevalence in the Delaware River Basin

The Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) is sharing the latest results of extensive field investigation and monitoring of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in PFAS Water Quality and Fish Tissue Assessment Study, a report marking more than 20 years of dedicated research into so-called forever chemicals within the Delaware River Basin.

The new research confirms PFAS contamination is both widespread and persistent in the Delaware River and selected tributaries. Surface water concentrations are increasing at a faster rate than water volume as the river moves downstream into Delaware Bay, suggesting there are ongoing inputs from unknown sources like industrial facilities, wastewater discharges and stormwater.

Camden County Roadwork Projects

Several roadway projects will be underway across Camden County during the week of June 1 to June 5.

“Motorists should plan ahead to take alternate routes and give themselves plenty of time to get to their destinations,” said Commissioner Al Dyer, liaison to the Department of Public Works. “Also, remember that when you’re traveling through a construction area, please slow down and stay alert for crew members and debris.”

Camden

PSE&G will be working on North 27^th Street on Monday, June 4, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There will be a partial road closure eastbound between River Avenue & Garfield Avenue.
PSE&G will be working on Marlton Pike and Baird Boulevard on Monday, June 1, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. There will be lane shifts at the intersection of Marlton Pike and Baird Boulevard.
PSE&G will be working on Newton Avenue on Monday, June 1 and Tuesday, June 2, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. There will be a full road closure between Chestnut Street and Kaighn Avenue.

NJDOT Traffic Advisory

Overnight lane and ramp closures are scheduled on Route 42 northbound, I-295 northbound and I-76 eastbound next week for structural steel installation as the Direct Connection project advances in Bellmawr, Camden County.

Route 42 northbound to I-76 westbound Lane Closures

Beginning at 10 p.m. Monday, June 1 until 5 a.m. Tuesday, June 2 and continuing each night through Thursday, June 4 at the same time and on Friday, June 5 and Saturday, June 6 from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. the next day, three left lanes on Route 42 northbound will be closed between Leaf Avenue (mile post 13.8) and where Route 42 northbound splits to I-76 westbound and
I-295 northbound (mile post 14.2). Motorists will be directed to take Exit 1B to I-295 northbound/Trenton. Stay left to take Exit 27B to I-76 to I-676 and Route 130/Camden/Philadelphia.

Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Scam Alert

ape May Court House, New Jersey – Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland together with Sheriff Robert Nolan are alerting residents to a recent telephone scam in which individuals are receiving calls from persons falsely claiming to be members of the Cape May County Sheriff’s Office.

In these calls, the scammers tell victims that they owe money for fines or missed court appearances and threaten that a warrant will be issued for their arrest if payment is not made immediately. The callers often demand payment through unconventional methods such as gift cards, wire transfers, or other non-traditional means.

Marijuana and Teens

Many teenagers try marijuana and some use it regularly. Teenage marijuana use is at its highest level in 30 years, and today’s teens are more likely to use marijuana than tobacco. Many states allow recreational use of marijuana in adults ages 21 and over. Recreational marijuana use by children and teenagers is not legal in anywhere in the United States. Today’s marijuana plants are grown differently than in the past and can contain two to three times more tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the ingredient that makes people high. The ingredient of the marijuana plant thought to have some medical benefits, cannabidiol (CBD), has not increased and remains at about 1%.

New Jersey Blood Services Declare Blood Emergency As Blood Supply Nears Critical Level

New Jersey Blood Services (NJBS) has declared a blood emergency as supplies have hit a critical low, dropping to less than a two-day supply overall and below a one-day supply for type O blood, the most critical type used in emergency care. These levels are particularly concerning given the challenges presented by upcoming special events and the summer “trauma season” that typically increases the need for blood. We are calling on our dedicated New Jersey communities to roll up their sleeves and support us in rebuilding our inventory to ensure we can meet the needs of our hospitals and support emergency mass-casualty preparedness. All blood types are desperately needed, but Types A-, B-, and O+/O- have hit dangerously low levels in the region.

Sherrill, Jain Announce NJDOT’s First Design-Build Contract Award

Governor Mikie Sherrill and New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) Commissioner Priya Jain today announced Agate Construction Company, Inc. and A. Servidone, Inc./B. Anthony Construction Corp. JV have been awarded a $47.7 million contract for the Department’s first Design-Build project, the Route 50 Bridge over Cedar Swamp Creek replacement project, located in Upper Township, Cape May County.

“When I took office, I made clear that we were going to do things differently and deliver for the people of New Jersey. That means taking more efficient, innovative approaches to modernizing our aging infrastructure. The Route 50 Bridge project reflects that, by replacing this critical connection to Cape May County and key coastal evacuation route through New Jersey’s first-ever Design-Build approach. By combining design and construction into one streamlined process, we’re cutting delays, lowering costs, and delivering this long-overdue upgrade faster for New Jerseyans.”
