Summer Fun Night in East Camden

Tonight, the Camden County Police Department will host its beloved Summer Fun Night at Alberta Woods Park from 5-8 p.m. This free event features petting zoo animals, pony rides, face painters, games, food, music and more for Camden residents.

“These events give our officers and residents the chance to connect in a fun, easygoing environment,” said Chief Gabriel Rodriguez. “As we head toward the start of the school year, it’s important for our young people to have safe, welcoming spaces to enjoy these last weeks of summer. I’m looking forward to spending time with everyone tomorrow and encourage our residents to join us in the park.”

Tiz (Myrtle L.) McComb, 90, of Gloucester City

“Tiz” (Myrtle L.) McComb (nee Tidswell), age 90, of Gloucester City, NJ, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2026, at Pitman Manor in Pitman, NJ.

Born on March 29, 1936, in Camden, NJ, Tiz graduated from Rancocas Valley Regional High School in 1954. She entered the West Jersey School of Nursing in Camden, NJ in 1954 and was “capped” March 7, 1955. Her career to caring for others as a Registered Nurse continued at Methodist Episcopal/Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.

She married her beloved husband Joe in 1964 where her role as wife and mother of Nancy and Steven were her focus and love. Settling into her treasured Monmouth Street home in 1974, Tiz was active in her community. She served as President of the Gloucester City High School PTA, worked at Brown Street School for the Gloucester City Board of Education (Food Service), and worked many summers at the front desk for the Gloucester City Swim Club.

Tiz was the beloved and devoted wife of the late Joseph J. McComb, Jr., retired Camden City Police, who passed away in 1980. She was also predeceased by her parents, Arthur H. Tidswell and Helen F. Tidswell (nee Friant), former owners and operators of The Central Record newspaper in Medford, NJ. She is survived by her devoted children; Nancy H. Motson (nee McComb) and her husband, Glenn F. Motson, Steven A. McComb and his wife, Elida Ortiz and Janice A. Archibald (nee McComb) with William Mathis. She was known as “Gaa-Gee” to many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren.

David Cummins confirmed as new TSA Administrator

David Cummins was sworn in as the eighth Administrator of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) following his confirmation by the U.S. Senate.

In May 2026, President Trump nominated Cummins to head TSA and lead a workforce of approximately 60,000 employees and the security operations at more than 430 airports across the United States. Under the direction of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, Cummins also has federal responsibility for the security of the nation’s surface transportation including rail, mass transit systems, highways, pipelines and maritime.

Proposed Rule to Revise Fishing Gear Regulations in Atlantic Highly Migratory Species Fisheries

NOAA Fisheries requests comments on a proposed rule to revise fishing gear regulations in Atlantic highly migratory species fisheries.

Proposed Gear Revisions:

Buoy gear: Authorize power assistance for gear deployment and retrieval, the use of this gear under additional permits (Swordfish General Commercial permit; some tunas and shark permits), and the retention of additional species (some tunas and sharks).

Speargun fishing gear: Authorize this gear to retain and sell bigeye, albacore, yellowfin, and skipjack tunas under some commercial permits.

New Jersey American Water Presents $2,350 Grant to Quinton Fire Company

New Jersey American Water presented Quinton Fire Company in Salem County, NJ with a $2,350 grant as part of the company’s 2026 Volunteer Fire and EMS Grant Program, which awarded about $50,000 to 21 volunteer fire and EMS departments across its service areas. The township will use the funding to purchase an MSA Altair 5x Gas Meter Kit, helping first responders detect and monitor hazardous atmospheric conditions during emergency incidents, improving firefighter safety and enhancing the department’s ability to protect the community.

Let’s Work Together to End Drunk Driving!

From August 19 through September 7, 2026, the Lower Township Police Department will be working alongside U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to deter drunk driving and prevent tragedies during the Labor Day holiday weekend. The message is clear: Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.

Labor Day is one of the busiest travel weekends of the year, and unfortunately, it also remains one of the deadliest due to impaired driving. During the 2024 Labor Day holiday period (6 p.m. August 30 through 5:59 a.m. September 3), 505 people were killed in traffic crashes nationwide. Of those fatalities, 170 people (34%) died in crashes involving at least one alcoholimpaired driver with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or higher.

SBA Opens Disaster Loan Outreach Center in Pennsylvania

The U.S. Small Business Administration announced the opening of a Disaster Loan Outreach Center in Philadelphia County to assist businesses, private nonprofits, and residents affected by severe storms occurring July 11.

Beginning Aug. 10, SBA customer service representatives will be on hand at the Disaster Loan Outreach Center in Philadelphia County to answer questions and assist with the disaster loan application process. Walk-ins are welcome and you can schedule in-person appointments in advance at appointment.sba.gov.

CMC SHIELD Task Force Conducts Traffic Safety Detail

Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland announced the completion of the third enforcement operation conducted under the Cape May County SHIELD Task Force (Safety on Highways through Intensive Enforcement & Law Enforcement Deployment), a countywide initiative focused on reducing dangerous driving behaviors, preventing serious and fatal crashes, and improving roadway safety for residents and visitors.

The SHIELD Task Force was enacted by Prosecutor Sutherland in his capacity as the Chief Law Enforcement Officer for Cape May County. Through a formal Prosecutor’s Law Enforcement Directive, Prosecutor Sutherland established the countywide initiative and authorized participating law enforcement officers, while engaged in officially sanctioned SHIELD Task Force operations, to enforce the motor vehicle laws of the State of New Jersey outside of their normal municipal jurisdictions within the geographic boundaries of Cape May County.

Route 44 Bridge REOPENED for Marine Traffic

The Route 44 Bridge over Mantua Creek between West Deptford and Paulsboro, Gloucester County REOPENED Wednesday, August 12 for marine traffic, resuming normal operations. The United States Coast Guard has been notified.

The bridge had been closed on Friday, August 7 because of excessive heat that caused the expansion of some components on the bridge, prohibiting it from opening to allow marine traffic to pass. Route 44/Crown Point Road was not affected and remained open for vehicles.
