Bluefin Tuna Commercial General Category Fishery Reminders

NOAA Fisheries reminds Atlantic Tunas General category permit holders and Highly Migratory Species Charter/Headboat permit holders fishing commercially for bluefin tuna that the General category fishery will re-open June 1, 2026.

General Category Retention Limits

Unless modified, the following default retention limits apply:

June 1-June 30: 3 large medium or giant bluefin tuna (measuring 73 inches or greater curved fork length) per vessel per day/trip

July 1-December 31: 1 large medium or giant bluefin tuna (measuring 73 inches or greater curved fork length) per vessel per day/trip

NJDOT Traffic Advisory

Overnight lane and ramp closures are scheduled on Route 42 northbound, I-295 northbound and I-76 eastbound next week for structural steel installation as the Direct Connection project advances in Bellmawr, Camden County.

Route 42 northbound to I-76 westbound Lane Closures

Beginning at 10 p.m. Monday, June 1 until 5 a.m. Tuesday, June 2 and continuing each night through Thursday, June 4 at the same time and on Friday, June 5 and Saturday, June 6 from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. the next day, three left lanes on Route 42 northbound will be closed between Leaf Avenue (mile post 13.8) and where Route 42 northbound splits to I-76 westbound and
I-295 northbound (mile post 14.2). Motorists will be directed to take Exit 1B to I-295 northbound/Trenton. Stay left to take Exit 27B to I-76 to I-676 and Route 130/Camden/Philadelphia.

Camden Leaders Joint Statement On Fire at the EMR Scrap Facility

“This morning, we were all awakened by a call that has come way too often for the residents of our community- another fire at the EMR scrap facility. This underscores the need for us to put residents first and ask the state Department of Environmental Protection, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and every other regulatory agency to shut down the operations inside this foreign conglomerate. We will not stand idly by while residents are exposed to fires on a regular basis and have to bear the burdens of an operation that clearly cannot function in a safe manner. We will no longer allow shelter in place alerts to go out because of another mishap in this scrap metal operation.

DOWN THE SHORE

On Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at approximately 12:56 a.m., officers from the Wildwood Police Department responded to a motel located at 4301 Atlantic Avenue for a report of a large disturbance occurring in the parking lot of the motel.

While investigating the incident, a suspicious vehicle was stopped in the motel parking lot in connection with the disturbance. During the encounter with the occupants of the vehicle, officers observed a handgun in plain view. As a result of the investigation, officers arrested Semaj Turner, 21, of Coatesville, Pennsylvania.

Turner was charged with the following crimes:

* Unlawful Possession of a Handgun (2C:39-5b) a crime of the second degree
* Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Magazine (2C:39-9h) a crime of the fourth degree

The Camden County Certified Gardeners’ annual Horticultural Training Program will be accepting applications for admission until Sunday, May31st. All applicants will be interviewed via scheduled phone appointments in June and notified of acceptance in July. Tuition is $250 via credit card or check payable to Camden County Certified Gardeners by August 15th. 948 Athletes to Compete in PA State Clay Target Tournaments

Pennsylvania – Students from all across the state are getting ready to participate in the 2026 Pennsylvania State High School Clay Target League (PASHSCTL) State Tournaments soon.

This year a total of 948 athletes from 63 teams will be participating across four different tournaments (Trap, Skeet, 5-Stand, and Sporting Clays).

The largest will be the 2026 PASHSCTL Trap Shooting State Tournament, held at Pennsylvania State Shotgunning Association in Elysburg on May 31, 2026. The event will feature 849 athletes from 48 high school teams.

The Skeet event will be held at Shenecoy Sportsman in Huntingdon on June 20, 2026, featuring 47 athletes from 8 teams.

The 5-Stand event will also be held at Shenecoy Sportsman in Huntingdon on June 20, 2026, featuring 24 athletes from 4 teams.

Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Scam Alert

ape May Court House, New Jersey – Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland together with Sheriff Robert Nolan are alerting residents to a recent telephone scam in which individuals are receiving calls from persons falsely claiming to be members of the Cape May County Sheriff’s Office.

In these calls, the scammers tell victims that they owe money for fines or missed court appearances and threaten that a warrant will be issued for their arrest if payment is not made immediately. The callers often demand payment through unconventional methods such as gift cards, wire transfers, or other non-traditional means.
