Legislation to Strengthen Anti-Vaping Education in Schools and Colleges Clears Committee

The Assembly Health Committee today advanced legislation sponsored by Assemblywomen Shanique Speight and Verlina Reynolds-Jackson that would require the Department of Health, in consultation with the Department of Education and the Office of the Secretary of Higher Education, to develop and distribute comprehensive guidelines to help schools and colleges implement on-campus anti-vaping awareness campaigns.

Under bill A2195, the Department of Health would create and update guidance that equips school districts and institutions of higher education with research-backed strategies to combat the rising use of e-cigarettes among adolescents and young adults. The guidelines would be publicly available on each department’s website.

GTPD to Promote Sergeant and Swear In Two New Officers

On Monday, March 9, at 7:00 p.m., Chief Anthony Minosse will present members of the Gloucester Township Police Department to Mayor David Mayer and Township Council during a ceremonial promotion and swearing-in ceremony. The ceremony will include the promotion of one officer to the rank of sergeant and the swearing-in of two new Gloucester Township police officers.

Ceremonially Promoted to the Rank of Sergeant:

Ceremonially Sworn In as Police Officers:
• Ptl. Tyler Shrader #351
• Ptl. William Franz #352

The ceremony will take place during the regularly scheduled Gloucester Township Municipal Council meeting beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Municipal Council Room.

Two Cape Henlopen Trails to Close for Repairs

The Junction and Breakwater Trail at Cape Henlopen State Park will close for repairs on weekdays for three weeks starting March 9, followed by the Gordon Pond Trail, which will close weekdays only for two weeks to fix small sections breeched by high tides.

Commissioners Mark Opening of Supportive Reentry Release Center

(Camden, NJ) – The Board of Commissioners celebrated the grand opening of the Camden County Department of Corrections Reentry Release Center. The newly renovated facility will work to reduce structural barriers for individuals leaving the Camden County Correctional Facility (CCCF) by working with peer specialists to help individuals pave a smooth transition back to their community. At one time, the correctional facility had more than double the number of residents that it currently houses today. As a result of these innovative initiatives, the jail population has been reduced by almost 60%.

Walter A. Kirk, Jr., 76, of Oaklyn

Walter A. Kirk, Jr., a longtime resident of Oaklyn, NJ passed away on February 9, 2026 at the age of 76.

Walt was the beloved son of the late Walter and Josephine Kirk.  He is the loving and devoted brother of Catherine (Lawrence) Kirk-Chase and Joanne (Rick) Wood.  Adored uncle to Jacob and Jemma Chase.

Walt was raised in the Fairview section of Camden, NJ.  He was the owner of Delaware Valley Appraisal Company of Audubon, NJ and was also a business partner in Homes by G & K.  More recently, Walt earned his Juris Prudence degree which was a lifelong dream of his.

Funeral service and interment will be planned at a later date.

We’re currently seeking nominations in five categories. You can learn more about each category below. 

You have until March 13 to get your nominations in. We’ll tally up the submissions, name finalists and open up the public voting phase from March 23 through April 3.

Winners of the 2026 Liberty Bells will be announced during Visit Philadelphia’s 30th Anniversary Gala on May 14.
