End of Watch: Sunday, October 18, 2015
Investigator Steve Sandberg was shot and killed while guarding a prisoner at St. Cloud Hospital, in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
The prisoner was in custody in connection with a domestic assault in Aitkin County. At approximately 5:15 am the subject attacked and disarmed Investigator Sandberg in the hospital room. The man then fatally shot Investigator Sandberg with his own service weapon.
Another deputy was able to subdue the subject with a Taser. The man died a short time later from an unknown cause.
Investigator Sandberg had served with Aitkin County Sheriff\’s Office for 24 years.![\"\"](\"/images/stars.png\")

NEWARK, N.J. – A Philadelphia man was sentenced today to 126 months in prison for trying to deliver 1.7 kilograms of pure methamphetamine in Elizabeth, New Jersey, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced.
Aaron Vega-Castelo, 29, previously pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Madeline Cox Arleo to an indictment charging him with one count of distribution and possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine. Judge Arleo imposed the sentence today in Newark federal court.

TRENTON – In compliance with the Attorney General’s Directive on Police-Use-of-Force Investigations, this public statement is being issued on the findings of the investigation into the fatal police shooting of Scott McAllister, age 39, on May 27, 2015 in Middletown Township.
Under the Attorney General’s Directive on Police-Use-of-Force Investigations, the incident was investigated by the Attorney General’s Shooting Response Team, made up of investigators from the Division of Criminal Justice and the New Jersey State Police Major Crime Unit. As a result of the investigation, Director Elie Honig of the New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice determined that presentation of the police-involved shooting to a grand jury was not required under the directive, because the undisputed facts showed that the use of force was justified under the law. The investigation included witness interviews, forensic analysis of the scene, an autopsy and other evidence.

Reminder for the week: Public urged to report violations of hunting and wildlife regulations
DOVER (Oct. 16, 2015) – To achieve public compliance through education and enforcement actions that help conserve Delaware’s fish and wildlife resources and ensure safe boating and public safety, DNREC Division of Fish & Wildlife Natural Resources Police officers between Oct. 5-11 made 1,794 contacts with anglers, boaters, hunters and the general public, including 53 vessel boardings for boating safety and fishing regulation compliance checks. Officers responded to 35 complaints and issued 22 citations, three of which were related to the C&D Canal Conservation Area and associated recreational trail, where there is an increased Fish & Wildlife Natural Resources Police presence.
