DNREC to Host Introduction to Living Shorelines Training

The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control will host a two-day training event Tuesday Sept. 22 and Wednesday Sept. 23 for anyone interested in an introduction to the development process and components of living shorelines in Delaware. Presented in conjunction with the Delaware Living Shorelines Committee, the in-person training event will be held at the DNREC Field Office on Pilottown Road in Lewes, beginning at 8:30 a.m. and concluding at 4 p.m. each day.

The training focuses on the ecology behind living shorelines and implementing projects based on specific goals. On day one of the training, participants will learn about the causes and kinds of shoreline issues, define the types of living shoreline solutions, and become acquainted with the plants and animals comprising and living in shoreline habitats. Day two of the training will span techniques and applications, an introduction to living shoreline materials, designing for specific goals and a review of project permitting.

EPA Proposes Arsenic Cleanup at Vineland Chemical Site

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is proposing an interim cleanup plan to address arsenic contamination remaining beneath the surface at the Vineland Chemical Superfund site in Vineland, New Jersey. The proposed plan focuses on arsenic-contaminated saturated soil, which is soil below the groundwater table, that continues to act as a source of contamination to groundwater, sediment, and nearby floodplain areas.

“To protect human health and the environment, EPA is taking an important step to keep arsenic from spreading,” said EPA Regional Administrator Michael Martucci. “EPA’s proposed plan targets a remaining source of arsenic contamination at the Vineland Chemical site and builds on years of cleanup work already completed.”

Suspects for Multiple Vehicle Vandalism in the 35th District

The PPD Northwest Detective Division is attempting to identify the individuals responsible for this vehilce vandalism.

On July 28, 2026, at 4:15am, on the 4800 block of N. 12th St unknown males broke windows on 16 different vehicles that were parked on the east side of the block. At approximately 4:15am on Tuesday, July 28th, an unknown vehicle, possibly a black Honda sedan, was seen driving north bound on the 4800 block of 12th St Surveillance cameras capture an unknown male leaning out of the passenger side of the Honda and this male is breaking the vehicle windows of all the cars parked on the east side of the street (16 cars total). The vehicle was followed on city cameras but last seen driving south bound on 5000 Camac St.

New Jersey Blood Services’ Annual “Blood For A Brew” Campaign Returns

New Jersey Blood Services (NJBS) is kicking off its fifth annual “Blood for a Brew” campaign to encourage blood donations during the critical summer months. Expanded this year to include local coffee shops in addition to breweries, the campaign offers everyone who comes to donate at a NJBS donor center or mobile blood drive from August 1 through August 31 a voucher redeemable for a free beverage at a participating establishment.

NJDOT Moves Outdoor Ad Permitting Online Aug. 1

Governor Mikie Sherrill today announced the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) Outdoor Advertising Permitting process will become fully electronic beginning on August 1, 2026, with paper applications no longer being accepted. This change aligns with the Department’s Major Access Permitting process becoming fully electronic on August 1 as well, which Governor Mikie Sherrill announced on July 17.

The transition away from paper applications supports the Governor’s Executive Order 5 (EO-5) to simplify and modernize the State’s regulatory processes to save time and money, and improve affordability, accountability, and transparency.

Walter E. Anderson, 81, of Collingswood

Walter E. Anderson, after a brief illness with lung cancer, died at home on July 27, 2026. He was 81 years old. Formerly of South Philadelphia, he was currently living in Collingswood, NJ.

Walt retired after spending 40 years with Goodmark Foods. Upon retirement, he spent many hours fishing on the Cooper River and was an avid sports fan, following his favorite Philadelphia teams. He was active at the Philadelphia Senior Center, taking ballroom dancing classes. He looked forward to the newest novels at the Collingswood Library and loved his trips to the casino with his many friends.

Walt is survived by his wife of forty years, Mary Anne Sullivan Anderson; his sister, Gloria Anderson; Sisters-in-law, Franciscan Sister Margaret Sullivan and Sister of Mercy Kathleen Sullivan.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, 10 AM to 11 AM at St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish, St. John Church, 809 Park Ave., Collingswood, NJ. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 AM. Interment private. The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, donations to the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia, 609 Convent Road, Aston, PA 19014, or the Sisters of Mercy, 515 Montgomery Ave, Merion Station, PA 19066.

Woman Charged In Fatal Shooting

A woman was arrested and charged after fatally shooting her boyfriend in Winslow Township on Wednesday afternoon, reported Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay and Winslow Township Police Chief Donald Lemons.

Amelia G. Wilmore-Nozil, 38, of Glassboro was charged with 2nd-degree Manslaughter and 2nd-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.

On Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at approximately 2:03 p.m., officers from the Winslow Township Police Department responded to the unit block of Bromley Court in reference to a person shot. Upon arrival, officers located a gunshot victim in the area of a parked vehicle, identified as 33- year-old Domincio Fuhrtz of Winslow Township.

Coast Guard Seizes Over $2.8M In Marijuana

MIAMI — Coast Guard Cutter Charles Sexton’s crew seized approximately 2,380 pounds of presumptive marijuana worth an estimate of $2.8 million, Saturday, following an interdiction of a suspected drug-smuggling vessel approximately 80 miles southwest of Great Inagua, Bahamas.

In coordination with the Bahamian government and with logistical support from U.S. Coast Guard Homeland Security Cutter-Ocean, Coast Guard Cutter Charles Sexton and the Royal Bahamian Defense Force crews boarded the suspected drug-smuggling vessel and discovered 97 bales of suspected marijuana. The three people on the vessel and the narcotics were transferred to RBDF for further prosecution.

Frank C. “Carleton” Dickensheets, III, 85, of Gloucester City

On July 25, 2026, Age 85, Of Gloucester City. Cherished Son of the late George W. Dickensheets, III and Grace Dickensheets (nee Albright). Survived by devoted and loving caregivers and friends.

Carleton was born in Woodbury and raised in Gloucester City. He attended the former Highland Park Grammar School in Gloucester City and was a proud 1958 graduate of Gloucester City High School. He was a graduate of Louisiana Tech University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. Carleton enjoyed traveling to England, Italy and Germany. He was a lifelong resident of Gloucester City and dedicated election poll worker in his beloved Gloucester City for many Election Days and Primary Days. Carleton was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church in Gloucester City and when the church closed, he transferred to Logan Memorial Presbyterian Church in Audubon. He assisted with counting the Sunday collection and sang in the choir for many years. Carleton took great pride in keeping his yard clean and was so proud to be from Gloucester City.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Carleton’s viewing on Friday, July 31, 2026 from 12 noon to 12:30 pm at McCann – Healey Funeral Home: 851 Monmouth Street, Gloucester City. Pastor Keith Schmitt, Pastor of Logan Memorial Presbyterian Church will officiate services at 12:30 pm in the funeral home. Interment with his late parents will be in the family plot at Harleigh Cemetery, Camden.
