NJDOT Hosts First Advanced Air Mobility Demonstration

TheNew Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) on August 13 hosted the first Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) demonstration in New Jersey at Atlantic City’s Bader Field. The event showcased how emerging electric and hybrid-electric aircraft can safely integrate into existing transportation systems and strengthen connections between communities and major commercial airports.

The demonstration was part of the Multistate Collaborative eVTOL Integration Pilot Program (eIPP) National Integration Complex (MSCE NIC)led by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Bureau of Aviation, and includes 21 partner states, including the NJDOT Bureau of Aeronautics. The demonstration was done in conjunction with Electra, the National Aerospace Research and Technology Park in Atlantic City, and hosted by our site sponsors, Atlantic City and the Atlantic City Economic Alliance.

Highland Park Volunteer Fire Co. Ends Ambulance Service; Chief Explains Why

GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ –Chief Irvin Brown of the Highland Park Volunteer Fire Company announced that the department will discontinue its backup ambulance service, citing a steady decline in volunteer participation and increasing training demands.

For more than 30 years, the company provided vemergency ambulance coverage to Gloucester City residents. But Brown said the organization can no longer maintain the level of service the community deserves.

“Volunteerism just isn’t what it used to be,” Brown explained. “We’ve reached a point where we don’t have enough trained personnel to safely and reliably operate an ambulance.”

He noted that modern emergency medical training requires significantly more time, certification, and ongoing education than in past decades. With fewer volunteers able to commit to those requirements, the department faced mounting challenges in staffing ambulance calls.

Brown emphasized that the decision was not made lightly. “We’ve always taken pride in helping our community,” he said. “But we can’t continue a service we’re no longer able to support at a professional level.”

The chief’s announcement reflects a nationwide trend: volunteer emergency services are struggling to recruit and retain members, leaving many communities dependent on paid or regional EMS providers.

DNREC Adopts Emergency Deer Hunting Regulations

With the initial discovery of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) in Delaware confirmed earlier this year, and the start of deer hunting season less than a month away, the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control has adopted emergency regulations to try to limit the spread of CWD and confine it to the area where it was found.

The initial identification triggered activation of the state’s CWD plan, with one of the first steps to conduct widespread sampling in the area where the initial cases were found. In July, DNREC worked with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection (APHIS) Wildlife Services and local landowners to collect and test additional deer to better understand the distribution and prevalence of CWD in the area. APHIS focused cluster sampling of 100 deer adjacent to the two initial CWD findings did not turn up any more cases of the disease.

Suspect for Institutional Vandalism in the 9th District

On August 14, 2026 at approximately 8:10am, employees of the Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History, 101 S. Independence Mall, found someone vandalized the “YO/OY” statue. The statue is a large YO/OY in bright yellow placed directly in front of the museum. Video footage recovered shows that on August 13, 2026 at 8:11pm, an unknown white male approximately 50-60 years old, heavily tattooed, wearing a white tank top, khaki shorts and red/white Nike Air Jordans vandalizes the statue, and then enters the Septa 5th Street station through the southeast stairs.

Rabid Skunk Confirmed in Cherry Hill

The Camden County Department of Health and Human Services has been notified by the New Jersey Department of Health that a skunk found in Cherry Hill has tested positive for rabies.

On August 14, a Cherry Hill resident’s dog got into an altercation with a skunk in their backyard. The Animal Control Officer (ACO) for Cherry Hill picked up the skunk and arranged for rabies testing at the state Public Health & Environmental Laboratories in Trenton (PHEL). On August 19, the Camden County Department of Health and Human Services was notified by PHEL that the skunk was rabid. There were no known human exposures to this skunk.
