NJDOT Traffic Advisory

Route 42 northbound, I-295 northbound and I-76 eastbound are scheduled to have overnight lane and ramp closures this week as the Direct Connection project advances in Bellmawr, Camden County. The lane and ramp closures, as well as traffic slowdowns, are necessary to install structural steel. Motorists are advised to use caution and expect delays when traveling through the work zones.

Tonight, Monday, September 14

Route 42 northbound to I-76 westbound Lane Closures

Beginning at 10 p.m. tonight, Monday, September 14 until 5 a.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, September 15, the two right lanes on Route 42 northbound will be closed between Leaf Avenue (mile post 13.5) and where Route 42 northbound splits to I-76 westbound and I-295 northbound (mile post 14.2).

Route 42 northbound Exit 1B to I-295 northbound/Trenton will also be closed and detoured. The following detour will be in place tonight:

Route 42 northbound Exit 1B ramp to I-295 northbound Detour:

·        Motorists traveling on Route 42 northbound wishing to take Exit 1B to I-295 northbound will be directed to continue on Route 42 northbound to I-76 westbound  

  • Take I-76 westbound to Exit 2/I-676 northbound
  • Take I-676 northbound to Exit 1/Collings Avenue
  • Turn right onto Collings Avenue
  • Turn left onto I-676 southbound, which becomes I-76 eastbound
  • Take I-76 eastbound to Exit 1B/I-295 northbound

In addition, between 11 p.m. tonight, Monday, September 14 until 4 a.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, September 15 and continuing each night through Saturday, September 19 at the same time, the New Jersey State Police will be assisting with traffic slowdowns on Route 42 northbound.

I-295 northbound Lane Closures

Beginning at 10 p.m. tonight, Monday, September 14 until 5 a.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, September 15, the two right lanes on I-295 northbound will be closed and detoured after Creek Road with traffic directed to stay left toward I-76/Camden/Philadelphia. The closure is necessary for steel beam installation. The following detour will be in place:

I-295 northbound Detour:

·        Motorists traveling on I-295 northbound will be directed to take old Exit 26/new Exit 27A (left exit), which becomes the left lane of I-76 westbound  

  • Take I-76 westbound to Exit 2/I-676 northbound
  • Take I-676 northbound to Exit 1/Collings Avenue
  • Turn right onto Collings Avenue
  • Turn left onto I-676 southbound, which becomes I-76 eastbound
  • Take I-76 eastbound to Exit 1B/I-295 northbound

In addition, between 11 p.m. tonight, Monday, September 14 until 4 a.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, September 15, the New Jersey State Police will be assisting with traffic slowdowns on I-295 northbound between the Creek Road/CR 753 Overpass (mile post 26.3) and the Browning Road/CR 659 Overpass (mile post 26.7).

Tuesday, September 15 – Saturday, September 19

Route 42 northbound to I-76 westbound Lane Closures

Beginning at 10 p.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, September 15 until 5 a.m. Wednesday, September 16, and continuing each night through Saturday, September 19 at the same time, the three left lanes on Route 42 northbound will be closed between Leaf Avenue (mile post 13.8) and where Route 42 northbound splits to I-76 westbound and I-295 northbound (mile post 14.2). Motorists will be directed to take Exit 1B to I-295 northbound/Trenton. Stay left to take Exit 27B to I-76 to I-676 and Route 130/Camden/Philadelphia.

In addition, between 11 p.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, September 15 until 4 a.m. Wednesday, September 16, and continuing each night through Saturday, September 19 at the same time, the New Jersey State Police will be assisting with traffic slowdowns on Route 42 northbound.

I-295 northbound Exit 27A to I-76 westbound Lane and Ramp Closures

Beginning at 10 p.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, September 15 until 5 a.m. Wednesday, September 16, and continuing each night through Saturday, September 19 at the same time, the two left lanes on I-295 northbound before Exit 27A are scheduled to be closed. At least one lane will be maintained on I-295 northbound.

In addition, the I-295 northbound Exit 27A ramp to I-76 westbound is scheduled to be closed each night at the same time. The following detour will be in place:

I-295 northbound Exit 27A to I-76 westbound Detour:

  • Motorists traveling on I-295 northbound wishing to take Exit 27A to I-76 westbound will be directed to continue on I-295 northbound
  • Take the left Exit 27B (old Exit 27) ramp to I-76 westbound

Beginning at 11 p.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, September 15 until 4 a.m. Wednesday, September 16, and continuing each night through Saturday, September 19 at the same time, the New Jersey State Police will be assisting with traffic slowdowns on I-295 northbound between the Creek Road/CR 753 Overpass (mile post 26.3) and the Browning Road/CR 659 Overpass (mile post 26.7).

I-76 eastbound Exit 1A ramp to I-295 southbound Lane and Ramp Closures

Beginning at 10 p.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, September 15 until 5 a.m. Wednesday, September 16, and continuing each night through Saturday, September 19 at the same time, the left lane on I-76 eastbound and the Exit 1A ramp to I-295 southbound are scheduled to be closed. At least two lanes will be maintained on I-76 eastbound on Tuesday night. On Wednesday, September 16 through Saturday, September 19 at the same time, two lanes are scheduled to be closed on I-76 eastbound. At least one lane will be maintained. The following detour will be in place Tuesday through Saturday nights:

I-76 eastbound Exit 1A ramp to I-295 southbound Detour:

  • Motorists traveling on I-76 eastbound wishing to take the Exit 1A ramp to I-295 southbound will be directed to continue onto Route 42 southbound
  • Take Exit 12/CR 544 to Route 41/Deptford/Woodbury/Runnemede
  • Take CR 544/Clements Bridge Road
  • Turn right onto Route 41 southbound
  • Take the ramp onto Route 42 northbound
  • Stay right to take Exit 14B to I-295 southbound

Portable variable message signs are being used to provide advance notification of traffic pattern changes associated with the work. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
