Woodbury, NJ – Raymond Tines, 42, of Washington Township, was sentenced to 5 years in state prison on Aug. 31, 2026 by the Honorable Renard L. Scott for unlawful possession of a weapon and cruelty to a child pursuant to a plea agreement.
According to documents filed in these cases and statements made in open court: In April 2021, a Washington Township resident reported Tines, who was a neighbor, had attempted to enter their home with a handgun and was observed standing out front of the house with a handgun. Tines was arrested later that day at his residence, where police found a handgun and a firearms identification card. Tines did not have a permit to carry a handgun in public.
The cruelty or neglect of a child charge stemmed from an unrelated 2020 incident in which Tines assaulted a minor victim in his care, causing injury to their face and body.
Pursuant to the plea agreement both charges were adjudicated together. Tines was sentenced to 5 years in state prison for second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, to be served concurrently with a 1-year sentence for the fourth-degree cruelty neglect of a child charge. He must serve 42 months before becoming eligible for parole.
