Commissioners Celebrate Hopkins Pond Improvements

The Board of Commissioners will celebrate the grand opening of a brand-new $325,000 investment at Hopkins Pond. The project includes a 28-foot octagonal pavilion, new brick-paver walkways, picnic areas, updated lighting fixtures, landscaping, and other site improvements. These enhancements were completed as part of the Commissioner’s Parks Alive initiative.

Corson and Rothwein Named IWLCA All-Americans

Rowan’s Elaina Corson and Madison Rothwein have been named to the 2026 IWLCA All-America Team, with Corson earning selection to the second team and Rothwein gaining a spot on the third team. It marks the second year in a row that the Profs have placed two players on the All-America squad.

Corson (Hainesport, NJ/Rancocas Valley), a senior, is a repeat All-America Second Team selection, having earned the honor last year. The attack player closed out her career as one of the Profs’ finest. She is Rowan’s all-time leading scorer with 332 career points (273g, 59a) and tops the Profs’ list for goals with 273 in her four years.

She recorded 81 goals this year, which led the NJAC and ranks eighth in the nation. She added 19 assists to total 100 points, which gives her 100-plus points in back-to-back seasons. Corson notched five game-winning goals on the year and had a high of nine goals in a win over Sewanee.

Philadelphia Police Report the Following Incidents

The Philadelphia Police Department is investigating a double shooting that occurred early March 25 in West Philadelphia, which appears to involve an exchange of gunfire between the two victims.

At approximately 12:07 a.m., 18th District officers responded to a report of a person with a gun and a shooting on the 6000 block of Sansom Street. Upon arrival, officers located a 22-year-old male suffering from a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. Police immediately transported the victim to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. During the transport, the victim stated that three unidentified males had exited a dark-colored SUV, possibly a Ford, and opened fire on him, noting that two of the suspects were armed with handguns and the third with a rifle. The victim further informed officers that he utilized his legally owned firearm to shoot back at his attackers. Police have since recovered the victim’s weapon.

Camden County Roadwork Projects

Several roadway projects will be underway across Camden County from May 26 to May 29.

“Motorists should plan ahead to take alternate routes and give themselves plenty of time to get to their destinations,” said Commissioner Al Dyer, liaison to the Department of Public Works. “Also, remember that when you’re traveling through a construction area, please slow down and stay alert for crew members and debris.”

PSE&G will be working on East Atlantic Avenue from Tuesday, May 26, to Friday, May 29, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. There will be a partial road closure eastbound, between West Merchant Street & Dowling Avenue, and a partial road closure eastbound, between Chestnut Street & West Vassar Road.

PSE&G will be working on Copley Road on Thursday, May 28, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There will be a partial road closure westbound, between Warwick Road & Mercer Drive.

The three-year accreditation, awarded to Cooper University Hospital, acknowledges the program’s excellence in patient safety, quality improvement, and outcomes in metabolic and bariatric surgery for both adults and adolescents.
