Seat Belts Saves LivesBuckle Up May 18 – May 31, and Every Day

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration is urging drivers to buckle up ahead of the Click It or Ticket seat belt
safety campaign. The national high-visibility seat belt enforcement effort, which coincides
with the Memorial Day holiday, runs May 18-31, 2026.
In 2024, there were 9,758 unbuckled passenger vehicle occupants killed in traffic crashes. The
national seat belt use rate in 2024 was 91.2%, which is good — but it can be better. The other
8.8% still need to be reminded that seat belts save lives. Participating law enforcement
agencies will be taking a no-excuses approach to seat belt law enforcement, writing citations
day and night.
One of the focuses of the Click It or Ticket seat belt campaign is nighttime enforcement.
NHTSA data shows a higher number of unrestrained occupant fatalities happen at night (56%
between the hours of 6 p.m. and 5:59 a.m.). Of the males killed in crashes in 2023, more than
half (53%) were unrestrained. For females killed in crashes, 41% were not buckled up.

Rowan Baseball Advances to NCAA Regional Final

Joey Bogart drove in four runs, Damon Suriani had four hits and Brayden Davis hit his first career grand slam as #5 Rowan defeated host Southern Maine, 18-7, in the 2026 NCAA Division III Baseball Regional. The Profs now advance to the regional championship on Monday morning at 11 a.m. against either Babson or Southern Maine. 

Rowan (34-5) needs to win just one game to advance to next weekend’s NCAA  Super Regional (May 22-23) for the fourth time in the last five years.

CNB Sports: Rowan Women’s Lacrosse Ends Season in the NCAA 3rd Round

CNB SPORTS: Top-ranked Middlebury scored the first seven goals of the game en route to a 21-4 victory over #18 Rowan in the Third Round of the NCAA Division III Women’s Lacrosse Championship. The Profs end the season with a 15-5 record, having reached the final 16 of the NCAA Championship for the second year in a row.

Rutgers Commencement: Emmy-winning Screenwriter Addresses Class of 2026

Christopher Markus, an Emmy-winning screenwriter who co-wrote six films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, encouraged the Class of 2026 to seize opportunities, learn from failures, and at times, plan less. 

“When I graduated from college, I had no idea I’d be a screenwriter,” Markus said during the 260th anniversary commencement for Rutgers University-New Brunswick and Rutgers Health. “When I became a screenwriter, I had no idea I’d wind up writing about a guy dressed as an American flag for 10 years, and when that finished, I had no idea what I’d do afterward.  And that’s the way I like it.”

GTPD Participates in Click It or Ticket Seat Belt Campaign

GLOUCESTER TWP (CNBNews)–The Gloucester Township Police Department will participate in the 2026 Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement campaign. The initiative runs from May 18, 2026 through May 31, 2026 and is coordinated by the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety in partnership with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The annual campaign is designed to promote seat belt use through high-visibility enforcement and public education efforts aimed at reducing traffic-related injuries and fatalities.

Primary Election Day is right around the corner, and it’s important that voters know what to expect for this year’s election in June.

“I always tell people to have a plan when it comes to voting, and here in New Jersey, you can choose a method that works best for you, Vote by Mail, early voting, or in-person voting,” said Clerk Pamela Lampitt. “Vote by Mail, gives all registered voters the opportunity to skip the lines at their polling place, while ensuring their voice is heard. Additionally, Vote by Mail increases access for seniors, college students, active-duty military, busy parents, people experiencing mobility limitations, and anyone else who may not be able to make it to the polls on Election Day.

ARA ROTTERDAM Arrives at Holt Terminal

GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ (CNBNews)(May 17, 2026)–ARA ROTTERDAM arrived at the Holt Marine Terminal, Gloucester City, NJ, on May 15. The vessel is a General Cargo Ship built in 2012 (14 years old) and currently sailing under the flag of Portugal (Madeira). The general cargo ship ARA Rotterdam has a length overall (LOA) of 146.25 meters (480 feet) and a breadth (width) of 20.2 meters (66 feet). Before arriving in Gloucester City, it was in Fenit, Ireland, located in County Kerry.

The ARA Rotterdam is a multi-purpose general cargo ship operated by Ocean7 Projects. It typically carries breakbulk, project cargo, and various dry goods (such as grain, metals, and industrial equipment) rather than standard containerized freight.

Daniel G. Duffy, 86, of Westville

On May 13, 2026, age 86 Of Westville. Formerly of Gloucester City. Predeceased by his loving wife of 55 years Helen Marie Duffy (nee Murphy).

Survived by his children, Dan Duffy, John Duffy (Kelly) and Patrick Duffy; grandchildren, Alec, Warren, Keegan, Kaitlyn, John, Fallon, Shane, Ellen, Erin and Teri and 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Eleanor Megee (late Donald). Predeceased by his brothers, Edward Duffy (late Elsie) and Michael Duffy (surviving Susan). Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Daniel proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy. He worked many years for Aluminum Shapes in Pennsauken before his retirement.
