Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland and Chief Donald Vanaman of the Lower Township Police Department announce that on August 29, 2026, at approximately 10:37 p.m., officers from the Lower Township Police Department responded to the area of the Mulligan Sports Complex located in the Villas section of Lower Township, New Jersey, for the report of multiple gunshots. It should be noted that no individuals were struck by any bullets.
An investigation conducted by the Lower Township Police Department Detective Bureau and the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit identified the suspect of this incident as 20-year old Leshaun Davis.
In the early morning hours of August 31, 2026, members of the Lower Township Police Department Detective Bureau, Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Cape May County Regional SWAT Team executed a court authorized search warrant at the residence of Leshaun Davis, located in the Villas section of Lower Township. Davis was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Lower Township Police Department.
Davis was subsequently charged with the following offenses:
- Criminal Attempt (Murder) – 1st Degree Crime
- Aggravated Assault – 2nd Degree Crime
- Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose – 2nd Degree Crime
Davis was lodged at the Cape May County Correctional Facility pending court proceedings.
Prosecutor Sutherland advised that there is no ongoing threat to the public and that this investigation remains active and ongoing.
