9/11 Survivor-Audubon Native to Speak at Commemoration

9/11 Survivor and Audubon native will speak at Camden County College, Blackwood campus today at 12 p.m. Louis Giaccardo went to work on the 87^th floor of the World Trade Center’s South Tower on the morning of September 11, 2001. When the towers were struck, the Audubon native helped more than 40 people evacuate to safety, just 25 minutes before the towers collapsed. Louis will share his powerful story of resilience and courage at Camden County College’s commemoration of the 25^th anniversary of the attacks.

“We are honored to have Mr. Giaccardo speak at Camden County College,” said Dr. Lovell Pugh-Bassett, President. “We invite everyone to hear his firsthand account of that tragic day, and his inspirational story of survival.”

The event is presented by the Center for Cultural Engagement at Camden County College.

Haddon Township Fall Festival Returns

Haddon Township will welcome the return of its annual Fall Festival on Saturday, September 12, with a full day of live music and dancing, rides, food trucks, kids entertainment, contests, local artisans and more.

The Street Fair will run from noon to 6 p.m., beginning at the Crystal Lake Pool Complex at West Park Boulevard and Crystal Lake Avenue and rocking the blocks all the way down West Park Boulevard. Jam Fest at the Lake will run from noon to 9 p.m. at the Crystal Lake Pool Complex. The rain date is Sunday, September 13.

Legion Family to Lead 9/11 Commemoration

Across the nation, The American Legion Family will lead their communities in honoring those lost during the 2001 terrorist attacks and those lost in the ensuing wars.

It’s a moment in America’s history that the American Legion Family continues to remember and ensure that their community never forgets the lives lost that day or the more than 7,000 U.S. servicemembers lost fighting in the global war on terrorism following the attacks. For 24 years, American Legion posts have conducted ceremonies on 9/11 to ensure that their communities don’t forget the lives lost that day or those lost while fighting the global war on terrorism prompted by the attack.

And this year is no different. From New York to California, Wisconsin to Florida and multiple points in between, ceremonies and other events will remember all those on or as a result of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

American Water & the City of Camden 9/11 tribute to honor victims with 2,977-flag memorial

Tomorrow morning, American Water and the City of Camden will mark the 25th anniversary of 9/11 with a waterfront tribute honoring the 2,977 lives lost and the first responders who answered the call.

Beginning at 8:30 a.m. at American Water’s headquarters and RCA Pier Park, the remembrance will bring together Camden officials, first responders, American Water leaders and community volunteers for a wreath dedication, moment of silence at 8:46 a.m., bell ringing and siren salute. The program will conclude with the installation of 2,977 American flags along the Camden waterfront.

The completed memorial will be visible from the Camden Waterfront Promenade, Delaware River, Philadelphia waterfront and Ben Franklin Bridge, and will remain in place for approximately one week.

Stephen W. Ronaldson, 81, of Haddon Heights

Stephen W. Ronaldson, age 81, of Haddon Heights, passed away suddenly but peacefully on September 6, 2026.

Steve, as he was known to all, was born on September 27, 1944, in Indiana to William and Marion (nee Engel). At a young age, his family relocated to Pennsauken, where he graduated from Pennsauken High School in 1960.

While working for the Hollingshead chemical company in Camden, he met his wife Maryann, who he wed on October 21, 1972. After having their first child 10 years later, they moved to Haddon Heights, where they raised their two children and have resided ever since.

In his youth, Steve was a passionate athlete, and that passion carried on past his playing years as a coach to his son and daughter, and as an avid fan of all Philadelphia sports teams. He gave his time to local sports organizations such as Haddon Heights Youth Athletics, serving on the board for many years and as its president.

Steve was always willing to try new things, and that was never more apparent than in his professional life. He worked as a warehouse manager, a small business owner and a freelance driver, among many other jobs.

Camden Cracks Down on Illegal Dumping

Commissioner Jennifer Cooley Fleisher joined Chief Gabriel Rodriguez, Mayor Victor Carstarphen and other city leaders to discuss the continued effort to crack down on illegal dumping. On an annual basis, Camden City spends more than $4.5 million cleaning up illegal dumping throughout the city.

“Every illegal dumping site is a potential threat to the health and safety of the community around it,” said Commissioner Jennifer Cooley Fleisher. “Our residents should not have to worry about hazardous materials, pests or contaminated areas in the places where they live, work and raise their families.”

As we approach the 25th anniversary of September 11th this Friday, I want to take a moment to reflect on what that day means to us as Americans and as a community. September 11^th is about remembering over 3,000 lives lost and the families who were forever changed, as well as all those heroes who ran towards danger when others were trying to get away from it that include the 667 law enforcement officers whose lives were taken by the attacks and later related illnesses.

UGRR Cyclists to Explain Why They Ride

Members of the Underground Railroad Nine will tell why they ride along the path of the Underground Railroad at the Sept. 10 meeting at 7 p.m. in observance of International Underground Railroad Month.

The free Zoom meeting requires advance registration.

The cyclists visited Lawnside and the Peter Mott House in 2023 on their way to Owen Sound, Canada, in respect to Harriet Tubman for the Emancipation Festival held there annually.

Their mission is to educate about this important history.
